There is no doubt that the surprise smash hit multi-user game of 2020 has been the unusual Fall Guys game by Mediatonic. The Battle Royale-style game took a different approach to the blood, guts and thunder approach favoured by many games in this genre, bringing a more ‘It’s a Knockout” or “Jeux sans Frontiers” appeal to the game.

Now we have already taken a look at what the Fall Guys game entails in a previous article, so we are not going to go over old ground again here, but instead what we are going to speculate on is whether one day we could see Fall Guys betting in esports betting sites alongside some of the more pre-established esports titles.

However, the road to potential Fall Guys betting could be as trepidatious as playing one of the rounds in the game itself with a number of potential obstacles to overcome.

Bonafide Esports Game

The first thing that is standing in the way of potential Fall Guys betting at your choice of esports betting site is the fact that at the moment Fall Guys is not a bonafide esports game. It is a very popular game, in the battle-royale style, but so far it has not garnered enough support within the esports community for there to be competitive tournaments and a structured esports-ready system for play to be developed.

Part of the problem with that is that there is a huge amount of luck involved in any round of Fall Guys. It is therefore hard for players to become proficient at a game that delights in having a massive random element. As such, are professional esports gamers going to be willing to invest time and money into playing the game consistently at a high level in order to develop the tournament structure that would start the ball rolling?

That looks highly unlikely given the current setup of the game.

Without that, there is no clear progression for players to follow to become top-level Fall Guys gamers and develop a reputation within the community. That is key as it is these players that betting sites are most comfortable offering odds on. Even the most willing esports betting site is going to be wary of offering odds on an event that can be so influenced by random outcomes and which features players that nobody has really heard of or knows how they will perform.

Twitch Betting Solution?

One possible solution could be to allow people following Twitch Streamers that are showing their performances in Fall Guys, to allow Fall Guys betting on that particular streamer. This is similar to what some sites, such as Unikrn offer for streamers on games like Fortnite, and conceivably, it could work.

However, the same issues with the randomness of the game would still exist as there is no real way players can get ‘good’ at the game to the point where backing them offers a significant advantage over other players of similar ability.

Not an Option then?

As things stand, Fall Guys esports betting looks like a long shot, however, if the game continues to be massively popular, usually where there is the will, there is a way. Perhaps a modified version of the game may be developed where skill rather than randomness is more of an element. That would then allow players to develop their skills and create a more workable environment for Fall Guys to become a fully-fledged esport, as well as allowing for esports betting on the game.
