All-Star Esports League brings free esports to US high schools

Esports in America is getting a big helping hand through the arrival of the All-Star Esports League. This aims to be a free high school esports league that will feature some of the biggest games like Fortnite, Super Smash Bros and Overwatch.
The project recently announced that it had managed to raise funding with a seven-figure investment. Once the All-Star Esports League gets started it will act in a similar way to high school American football and basketball leagues.
This means that it could work as a feeder system for collegiate competitive gaming and professional esports. The All-Star Esports League will also promise to deliver millions of dollars worth of scholarships and prizes to the best young gamers in the USA.

THE 17-YEAR OLD MASTERMIND BEHIND THE ESPORTS PROJECT
The All-Star Esports League is all the more notable due to the fact that it has a 17-year old CEO. Jordan Zietz started the project in order to appeal to those students who aren’t involved in extracurricular sports. He noted that some students might be physically unable to compete in sports, and esports offering a suitable alternative.
Zietz has plenty of experience as both a student and a gamer and he wants to allow all gamers to be able to participate in the All-Star Esports League without worrying about fees. The Florida native noticed that the current leagues available to schools often have fairly prohibitive costs and he wanted to provide a cost-effective solution.
The 17-year old already has entrepreneurial experience in running a video game rental company and a virtual reality brand. But his move into high school esports seems to be especially well-timed.
With over $1 million already raised, Zietz is planning to undertake more funding drives. These will help to promote the availability of the All-Star Esports League, and increase the overall prize pools. The prize pools will be able to provide anything from scholarships to specialist gaming equipment.
US COLLEGES AND HIGH SCHOOLS KEEN TO IMPLEMENT ESPORTS
There’s something of a gold rush amongst esports companies at the moment to try and sign up high school gaming teams. The competitive gaming phenomenon has exploded across the USA in the past decade, and real efforts are being made the harness the potential of the fledgling industry.
The All-Star Esports League already faces plenty of competition from rival gaming tournaments. PlayVS is a hugely popular student gaming service that is well-known for its LoL contests, while High School Esports League is another rival gaming platform.
But the All-Star Esports League has expanded to include over 5,000 registered teams in less than half a year. The fact that the gamer league is also free-to-play means that it offers all US students an equal chance to excel at titles like Fortnite, Overwatch and Super Smash Bros, regardless of their background.
