TobiWan Launches BestMeta, The Latest Esports Crowdfunding Platform

BestMeta is newest name in esports crowdfunding. Launched by veteran Dota 2 caster Toby “TobiWan” Dawson, the platform looks to connect content creators with fans.

The team behind BestMeta set out to create a go-to place for content creators to seek funding directly from fans.
BestMeta announced project details this past week, including initial information on the platform’s cryptocurrency, the BestMeta Token (BMT). The token’s presale is planned for Feb. 15-28, with the public sale scheduled for March. Each token constitutes an initial value of $0.60.
Here’s how BestMeta’s initial press release pitched the new platform:
“All fans want to have some form of input into how their favorite things are created, and BestMeta offers that by breaking down the barrier between the talent and the fans, the tokens acting almost like a production credit for the content creation of that talent, offering up unique collaborative opportunities between the talent and their fans.
“As the brand of the talent gets bigger over time and exposure, the value of the community tokens increase in line with the value of the talent, creating a sustainable ecosystem of empowerment and opportunity between the talent and the community.”
In order to give interested parties a better idea of how it should work, the BestMeta team funded a quiz show named Well Played. The panel-style event will see esports personalities attend. TobiWan will host, with the first episode to air on Jan. 24.
ICOs and esports
BestMeta’s recent Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is not the first crypto-crowdfunding initiative in esports. There have been a couple of projects in the esports industry funded this way.
Unikrn makes for a great example. The popular esports betting organization launched its ICO back in July, creating UnikoinGold, an Ethereum blockchain-based token. The aim of the UnikoinGold is to continue the success of its existing Unikoin token, which gives users the ability to bet on esports in regulated markets and win prizes in markets where Unikrn is not licensed to operate.
In BestMeta Token’s case, the coin holders can use the cryptocurrency to support projects pitched by approved content creators. Using BMTs also means so-called Smart Contracts can be implemented. This safeguards investors by making sure the project is completed.
One final beneficial feature of the platform is the public, transparent cost of all projects.
