When we write about esports betting tips, we usually advise you to bet safely and not to wager too much money on a long shot. These sorts of tips help people make a decent amount of cash over a long period of time, but there are always those tall tales of someone taking a wild punt and making some serious cash. So, how much money has someone made on a single bet, and what is the biggest Betway win?

There are some amazing stories of folks winning crazy amounts of money from online or offline betting, but one man may have the story to beat them all.

What is the biggest Betway win?

Meet Jon Heywood, a 26 year old British Army soldier from Cheshire, England. He is having a bit of a rough time, his grandfather recently passed away, and to make matters worse, his father is awaiting a heart and lung transplant.

He is sitting at home and watching TV when an advert flashes on the screen. It’s for a betting site, Betway Casino to be exact, and he decides to take a punt. He signs up for the site and makes one deposit.

He deposits £30 but he doesn’t want to waste that money too quickly. He starts placing small bets, just 25 pence, on the slot game ‘Mega Moolah’, one of the popular Betway casino games. After only seven minutes he hits big, very big.

Just before midnight on Tuesday the 6th of October Jon Heywood wins €17,879,645.12. Converted to pounds, Jon takes home a world-record £13,213,838.68 jackpot at the Betway Casino. With one 25 pence bet he became a multi-millionaire.

Record-breaking win

Jon Heywood and Betway can now both claim to be Guinness world record holders. Betway along with software provider Microgaming submitted exhaustive evidence to Guinness World Records, including ratification from online gaming authority eCOGRA.

As a result of the evidence and Jon’s win, they hold the record for the “largest jackpot payout in an online slot machine game”. His win of €17,879,645.12 beats the previous record, set in Finland in 2013, by just under €18,000.

What will he do with the money?

Speaking about his win to Betway Insider, Jon Heywood outlined his plans for the money and who he told about the win:

“I couldn’t believe that I’d won all this money at the time – and it still hasn’t sunk in.

The first thing I will spend it on is the best possible medical treatment for my dad. That’s more important than anything. Family comes first and I’d give all this money back for him to be healthy again.

I’m trying not to get carried away and I really don’t know what else I’m going to buy with the money. Apart from a yellow Bentley Continental GT.

I never even dreamed of driving a Bentley, let alone owning one. I’ve got a Fiat Punto at the moment!

The only people I’ve been able to tell so far are my superiors at work, my girlfriend, and my parents. No one thought it was real. They might do once they see my picture in the paper!”
