Blizzard Releasing Warcraft Mobile
Don’t worry, the quote “Do you guys not have phones?” was also the first thing we thought about when we heard that Blizzard announced that they are releasing a new mobile game. However, unlike the last time they announced a mobile game, which was Diablo: Immortal, this one will be in the Warcraft universe.
When is the game coming out?
Unfortunately, there is no exact release date, but we know that the game will come out in 2022. This could mean that it could come out in a few months, but it could also mean that it might come out at the end of the year, which would not be a surprise.
A later release date is more expected than a sooner one, especially when we look at the case of Diablo: Immortal, which was announced in 2018 and was planned to launch last year. Naturally, it got postponed to 2022, and we would not be surprised if Blizzard would end up delaying this one as well.
Is this game going to be WoW mobile?
While we know that the game will revolve around the Warcraft universe, it is not known if it is going to be a portable version of WoW. So far, the only game related to Warcraft available on a mobile device is our favorite esports betting game, Hearthstone and the WoW Companion(which is essentially an app for the mission table).
While many people are speculating that the mobile game is going to be WoW mobile, the odds of that happening are extremely low. Not only because porting such a massive game to a mobile device seems like an impossible task, but also because playing a game as complex as WoW on a mobile device does not seem appealing.
If not WoW mobile, then what?
Blizzard said that the game will be completely new and not a port of any kind. The first thing that honestly comes to our mind is how Command & Conquer was treated with its mobile version, which is honestly the most likely outcome for Warcraft. We are hoping that is not the case, but whether we are going to be disappointed or not, we have to wait a few more months.
On the other hand, it could also be some kind of mobile MOBA, as Mobile Legends and Wild Rift are huge when it comes to mobile esports. Blizzard already seems to be improving their esports scene when it comes to WoW by revealing their plans for 2022. OWL is also getting favorable treatment by getting outsourced to a third party, which seemed like a fantastic decision when we look at their plans in Hearthstone in 2020.
Of course, this is just speculation, and since Warcraft is such a gigantic universe, anything could come out of it. The only thing we can be sure of is that it is not going to be a card game, as we already got Hearthstone for that, and it is not going to be for WoW mini-games, as we got the WoW Companion app for those features(or at least some of them).
