Dallas Dominates Final Stage; Last Major Is Here
It’s almost too sad to bear – the Call of Duty League 2021 season is nearly over. Since February, we’ve followed the exhilarating escapades of twelve teams as they’ve fought it out on Black Ops Cold War. Now, the final regular stage has wrapped, and we move on to the last Major Tournament of the 2021 season. Following that event, we’ll be blessed with the Call of Duty Champs stage. Then, when that is all said and done, our Call of Duty League 2021 world champions will be crowned.
But who will receive that crown?
In the final stage, reigning champions Dallas Empire pulled out all the stops. The second-place side dominated both Seattle Surge and Toronto Ultra, dropping just one map in the last week. Throughout the stage five groups, Dallas Empire secured a 4 – 1 record, tying it up nicely with Toronto, OpTic Chicago, and Atlanta FaZe. Dallas Empire has now secured advantageous seeding for the Major V Tournament that kicks off this week.
Atlanta FaZe, for the first time ever, has not secured this super seeding, and currently sits one step behind Dallas Empire in the Major V schedule. Last year, Dallas snatched the crown from Atlanta FaZe at the last post, after FaZe won the regular season. Are we going to see a repeat of that this year?
Farewell To The Final Stage
For some, the final stage was an absolute curse. Let’s talk about the Los Angeles Guerrillas, a team that failed to secure one single win throughout the final stage. If we work backwards, we can confirm that LAG lost to Seattle, Florida, Toronto, Dallas, and Minnesota. In fact, LAG managed to win just two maps out of the entire spree of matches. Now, LAG begins Major V in the least advantageous position possible.
Joining LAG at that point is the New York Subliners, a team that had a remarkably shocking final stage. The Subliners has been one of the strongest teams of the season, but the squad seems to have fallen short at the final post. In a shock swing away from traditional form, NYSL picked up a 1 – 4 record in the final stage. If the team is going to win Major V, it’ll be an incredibly tough run.
Elsewhere, the Florida Mutineers failed to secure a win against both Toronto and Minnesota this week. Although, a slightly stronger performance through the final stage has awarded Florida a set forward in the loser’s bracket through Major V. Also up ahead in the loser’s bracket is the London Royal Ravens.
Fate Has Already Decided
For Seattle Surge, LAG, Paris Legion, and London Royal Ravens, the CDL 2021 season is effectively over. Although they’re more than welcome to try and win this final, grand stage, they’ll never make it to Champs this year. Bizarrely, the 9th, 10th, and 11th spots on the Call of Duty League table are all tied with 100 CDL points. Seattle Surge is unfortunately last, with just 90 points from the entire 2021 season.
At the top of the table, FaZe cannot be taken out of the pole position. Even if Dallas Empire, in second place with 360 points, wins the Major, it won’t be enough. At present, FaZe boasts a remarkable 505 CDL points and a record of 34 – 5. The team has also won three of the four Major Tournaments that have already been played.
But as we know, it’ll all come down to that incredibly important Champs event to decide the ultimate victor.
Major V kicks off on the 29th of July with Paris Legion vs. Seattle Surge. Don’t miss out on the action!
