Chinese event organizer Mars Media has announced its Dota 2 competition will be held at Disneyland Paris. Taking place May 4-12, the tournament will be part of the current DPC season. It will feature a prize pool of $1 million.

The first MDL event outside China

The upcoming MDL Disneyland Paris Major will be the fourth Major of the current 2018-2019 DPC season. It will also be the very first time this particular competition will take place outside China.

“We couldn’t have hoped for a better place and partner to host the very first MDL outside of China,” said Mars Media CEO Zhang Yu. “We are looking forward to collaborating with Disneyland Paris, which marks our first, but not last, foray into the Western esports market.”

The competition will take place at Disney’s Newport Bay Club and Disney Events Arena. The latter is a 77-thousand-square-foot venue that was recently modernized and can host up to 6,000 fans.

Over the course of six online regional qualifiers, teams will have the chance to secure spots for the main event at the Arena.

The road to TI 2019 continues

MDL Disneyland Paris Major will be the second-to-last Major tournament before this year’s The International in Shanghai.

So far, three Dota 2 Majors have concluded: Kuala Lumpur, Chongqing, and DreamHack’s DreamLeague Season 11. A total of 45,000 points have already been distributed, with 30,000 still up for grabs at the two remaining Majors.

Team Secret and Virtus.pro are currently tied at first place at 7,950 points. Evil Geniuses and PSG.LGD follow close behind with 4200 and 2250 points, respectively. The upcoming Majors, as well as Minors, will decide who will be in the final 12-team group that receives direct invites to The International.

Tickets for the MDL Disneyland Paris Major go live on Monday, March 11.
