First ESG Mykonos Set To Make Splash With CS:GO Teams And Fans Alike

So it is with great anticipation that the CS:GO esports fraternity awaits the start of the new ESG Tour Mykonos 2017 tournament. The action begins Thursday, Sept. 7.
With the backing of PvPRO, Betway, and Twitch, this exciting new tournament promises to be something completely different than any other offline CS:GO tournament.
The Destiny Villa
The home of the Mykonos Open is the fantastic Destiny Villa complex situated on the Greek island of Mykonos. The Destiny Villa comprises three separate houses and two swimming pools with stunning views of the Aegean Sea’s crystalline waters.
Unlike with most tourneys, the eight teams will stay on site and enjoy the facilities when they are not waging some fierce CS:GO battles. Teams will certainly be enjoying their downtime as much as they will enjoy competing for the €200,000 guaranteed prize pool.
The tournament structure
Group stage
Seven teams have been invited to the event based on their past performances, plus one team that made it through a qualifying event.
- Invited Teams (7) – SK Gaming, Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, Heroic, mousesports, BIG, Gambit Esports
- Qualifier (1) – Team EnVyUs
The qualifier took place in mid-August and saw Team EnVyUs defeat Team LDLC.com, Hellraisers, and Space Soldiers for a place in the event.
For the first ESG Tour event, the format will be very familiar to CS:GO fans. The group stage will feature two groups of four in a GSL-style competition.
The first three games in the group — the opening matches and then the match between the two winning teams from the first two games — will all be best-of-one. The fourth and fifth games (which will decide the No. 2 team in the group) are best-of-three.
The two groups of four have already been decided and are outlined below:
- Group A – SK Gaming, Gambit Esports, Heroic, mousesports
- Group B – Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, BIG, Team EnVyUs
The first matches have also been drawn:
- Group A – SK Gaming vs. mousesports, Gambit Esports vs. Heroic
- Group B – Virtus.pro vs. Team EnVyUs, Team Liquid vs. BIG
Bet365 has already priced up the opening games. Gambit Esports are 8/15 favourites to defeat Heroic (11/8); SK Gaming are 1/3 to beat mousesports (9/4); Team Liquid are even money against favourites BIG (8/11). The most even contest is between Virtus.pro (4/5) and Team EnVyUs (10/11).
Playoffs
Following the group stage, the top two teams in each group enter the playoffs. The winner from one group will face off against the runner-up from the other. The two winners of the semifinals will then contest the final, but there will be a crucial third-place match for the two losing semifinalists.
The teams that finish in the top three positions of this inaugural ESG Tour event will automatically earn invites to the next event. Details will be announced later this year.
There is a top prize of €100,000 ($117.489) for the winner and a second-place prize of €40,000 ($46,995) for the runner-up. The third- and fourth-place teams will each receive €20,000 ($23,497).
