Competitive Format
ESL Pro League Season 11 takes place in three stages. During each of these stages, the matches are Bo3, except the Grand Final, which is Bo5.
Groups
During this stage, the teams play one match against each of their opponents. In the end, group winners advance to the Play-In stage for seeing. The 2nd and 3rd place teams advance to the round of 12.
Play-In
This stage consists of just two matches held between the winners of the 4 groups. The winners advance to the Semifinals of the Playoffs. The losers advance to the Quarterfinals.
Playoffs
This is the final stage of the tournament and it brings together the best 12 teams. In every group, the bottom 3 teams are eliminated and the top 3 go to this stage.
Favorites
In Group A, the big favorites are Astralis, ENCE, NiP, and Vitality. Astralis is pretty much guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs. So the only real question is: which of the remaining 3 teams will grab the other two spots? In all likelihood, ENCE and Vitality will be the winners here, but NiP might prove stronger than most people think.
In Group B, Fnatic, Natus Vincere, and Heroic should have a relatively easy ride. In particular, Na’Vi just won one of the biggest events of the year, IEM XIV World Championship, and is clearly at the top of its game. As for Fnatic and Heroic, they too are very good teams and should be expected to triumph in the face of opponents like Complexity, forZe, and FURIA.
In Group C, the big names are mousesports, Liquid and Virtus.pro. The first two of these teams are too good to lose their ticket to the Playoffs, while the third has a new roster and is expected to do well at the event.
In Group D, everyone apart from TYLOO has a fair chance of advancing. Of course, you should prioritize and keep an eye on FaZe Clan, G2 Esports and Evil Geniuses. But the other two teams could easily produce some upsets.
