T1 and G2 favorites in EWC LoL Semi-finals – Predictions & Odds

Published: Jul 6, 2024

The semi-finals at the Esports World Cup LoL tournament set up East vs West matchups. Both rematches of series already seen at this year’s Mid-Season Invitational. TL face an uphill task against T1 and G2 will look to replicate their historic MSI victory over Top Esports.

Half way through the inaugural Esports World Cup League of Legends event and already fans have been treated to a number of upsets. MSI holders and EWC favourites Gen.G were swept 2-0 by China’s Top Esports, and Europe’s Fnatic lost to NA rivals Team Liquid. In closer series, G2 crept through a 2-1 win against FlyQuest while Korea’s T1 triumphed 2-1 in a much tougher matchup with Bilibili Gaming.

EWC LoL Predictions Semifinals

T1 vs Team Liquid

In a tournament that kept the East and West separated during the quarter-finals, it could be tricky to imagine quite how different the levels are between each at this moment in time. If MSI is anything to go by, however, then T1 should make light work of North America’s Team Liquid. The LCK legends comfortably won their MSI tie in a 3-1 series, though the best-of-three nature of the EWC semis means that upsets are more likely.

Cheesing a game one victory could see the momentum in Team Liquid’s favour, where only one other subsequent win is needed to clinch the series. Excluding last season’s World Championship win, this T1 lineup has been known to choke internationally and MSI was no exception.

That said, it’s very difficult to see a world in which T1 doesn’t move through to the final given the relative strength of the regions. T1 remains one of the strongest teams in arguably the game’s toughest region while TL have looked hit and miss in a much inferior league. I’m expecting a clean 2-0 victory for T1.

Prediction: T1 2-0 Team Liquid | x1.3 @ GG.BET

G2 Esports vs Top Esports

G2 grabbed the League of Legends world’s attention with their MSI showing, cementing their place as a top-four team on the planet and claiming a historic 3-0 win over Top Esports in the process. Now looking to continue their strong international form and G2 has the chance to get one over on the LPL representatives once again.

Top themselves have been unbeaten since their G2 loss, winning all series of their LPL summer run so far and knocking out tournament favourites Gen.G in a 2-0 sweep in the quarter-finals.

While an exact repeat of the MSI scoreline isn’t possible due to the best-of-three nature of this series, a similar dominance from G2 seems unlikely regardless. While the LEC holders have shown no signs of slowing down, Top has ramped up over the last month and should give G2 a much tougher time. I’m expecting G2 to edge it in a narrow 2-1 that I could very easily see swaying in either team’s direction.

Prediction: G2 Esports 2-1 Top Esports | x4.8 @ Thunderpick
