Can FaZe Defend the Throne at the Halo World Championship?

Published: Oct 1, 2024

As the community prepares itself for the Halo World Championship, the likes of FaZe, OpTic and Spacestation are all favourites to win the tournament. Can FaZe defend the throne? Will FormaL continue making history? Let’s dive into our Halo World Championship predictions.

A Three Horse Race at HWC

As outlined by esports betting sites at the time of writing, the Halo World Championship 2024 features a three-horse race:

Historically, for those unaware, these Halo odds favourites are the top three teams from the last iteration of the Halo World Championship when FaZe Clan walked away victorious – let’s take a closer look.

FaZe Clan Looks Flaky

Maintaining the World Championship roster with some of the best Halo players, FaZe has been rather inconsistent all season long.

After winning the HWC 2023, this team earned a mixture of 5-6th placements in the Open Series tournaments, building up to a well-deserved win at the HCS London Major over OpTic Gaming.

At the two consecutive HCS Majors, FaZe Clan finished 5-6th at HCS Atlanta and 4th at HCS Salt Lake City. In both situations though, they only lost to their two rivals – OpTic Gaming and Spacestation Gaming.

While FaZe Clan continues to trade matches against OpTic, they can count their wins against Spacestation on one hand.

With this incredible roster of World Champions, FaZe Clan can’t be counted out of any Halo tournament.

Spacestation Super Team?

Following a bittersweet third-place finish at the Halo World Championship 2023, Spacestation signed the likes of Kaci “Lqgend” Sabri to bolster this team.

With the addition of arguably the best European Halo professional player ever, this reached new heights for this organization in Halo.

After finishing 4th at the HCS London Major, Spacestation Gaming went back to back at both the HCS Atlanta Major and the Salt Lake City Major. Destroying OpTic Gaming 4:0 and 4:1 in both Grand Finals, Spacestation has consistently been the best.

Although Spacestation has never won the Halo World Championship, they now stand as the clear favourites.

OpTic – Allergic to Winning?

As a team, OpTic is in a peculiar situation. Finishing second at the Halo World Championship last year, this team has since placed accordingly this season:

Swapping out “aPG” for “Deadzone in December, this team has consistently overperformed at tournaments but constantly disappoints in the Grand Finals.

Falling to Spacestation and FaZe, OpTic seems to be allergic to winning despite fielding World Championship players.

With so much experience, we won’t be surprised to see OpTic back in the Grand Finals – but will they place second again?
