G2, Logitech Partner With Fernando Alonso For Sim Racing Team

Another big name from traditional sports is getting involved with esports. Two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso is partnering with G2 Esports and Logitech G to put together an elite racing team. Dubbed FA Racing G2 Logitech G, the team will compete in various professional racing tournaments around the globe.

First F1 champion entering esports

In partnering with the successful Spanish esports organization (G2) and the leading gaming gear brand in the industry (Logitech), Alonso will become the first F1 driver involved with esports.

“Every Formula 1 driver is a gamer at heart,” said Alonso in a press release. “Competing on the virtual stage opens a vast amount of possibilities for young drivers that wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to get into racing.”

G2 and Logitech don’t lack any industry know-how.

“Logitech G has played an important role in supporting the development of esports since 1997,” said Logitech Head of EMEA Kristian Tear. “We are excited about this partnership with G2 Esports and Fernando Alonso and look forward to working together on building new driving programs and the best gear for professional racing.”

The hits keep coming for G2

The Spanish esports powerhouse has recently made a lot of successful strategic moves. Besides the Alonso partnership, the organization also deepened its relationship with Logitech.

Moreover, in August, G2 welcomed FC Barcelona midfielder André Gomes during a fresh funding round. Muck like Alonso, Gomes says he views esports as a potential second career going forward.

“In this increasingly digital world, I see tremendous potential in esports,” Gomes said in a press release this fall. “Esports is the next generation of sports, and League of Legends is its cornerstone. I couldn’t be more thrilled to invest in and partner with G2 Esports.”
