Final Week of CDL 2021 Season Is Here
Since February, fans have been glued to the Call of Duty League 2021 action. It has been an exhilirating few months, but like all good things, it must come to an end. Although we’ve still got the final Major Tournament and the Champs stage yet to play, this week is the final regular week of the entire 2021 season.
It’s the second-to-last opportunity for teams to pick up those all-important CDL points ahead of Champs. Unfortunately for the bottom four teams in the Call of Duty League table, the Major Tournament being played from July 29th will be their last taste of CDL For this year.
However, we’ve got a fantastic week ahead of us, and the CDL 2021 season is sure to end in an impressive fashion.
The State of Play
Right now, Atlanta FaZe is in first place and boasts an enormous 150 CDL point lead. It’s almost impossible for Toronto Ultra, the second place side, to catch up at this point. At present, there’s a dramatic race to be in the top eight ahead of Champs.
In fact, second, third, fourth, and fifth place are seperated by just 45 points. To put that into perspective, one regular win is worth 10 points, and winning the Major Tournament is worth a hefty 75 CDL points.
At the other end of the spectrum, a sadder story awaits us. It’s Seattle Surge that is holding the last spot on the table, having pulled a paltry 7 – 23 record so far this season. Although, just ten points above them is the London Royal Ravens, with an overall claim of 8 – 21.
It’s a dire scene at the bottom of the table, but will any of these low-tier teams pull themselves up ahead of Champs? It’s a mid-table crisis for Thieves and Florida, as any losses at this point could spell danger.
And We Enter The Final Week
This week opens with a clash between Paris and the Subliners. It’s the remarkably low versus the relatively high, and every point, every map, every kill is important. This week, the Subliners must also clash with Atlanta FaZe, which has easily become the most powerful team in CDL history.
Other top-table teams have it a little easier this week, such as OpTic Chicago. The Greenwall must contend with London Royal Ravens and LA Thieves, and on paper, OpTic wins those fixtures nine times out of ten. Although, there have been doubts as to the efficacy of OpTic’s formula this season, so it’ll be interesting to see how they manage in the final week of the CDL.
Elsewhere, Dallas Empire, the reigning CDL champions from the 2020 season, have a 50-50 setup this week. They’re fighting Seattle, who they should walk over, and Toronto, a team that exploded in ability since it won the second Major. In fact, Toronto is the only team to win a Major this year, other than Atlanta FaZe.
Prepare To Bid Farewell
For four teams, the final Major Tournament will be their CDL swansong. For other mid-table sides, this last week is their final chance to really pull something out of the bag. The likes of the Florida Mutineers, Minnesota Rokkr, and the LA Thieves all have a lot to prove as the CDL 2021 season closes.
The landscape may look dramatically diferent as we enter the final Major Tournament of 2021. Keep your eyes glued to the action as it commences tomorrow, July 22nd.
