Gambit Defeats Envy in VCT Masters Berlin Grand Finals

The VCT Masters in Berlin concluded with yesterday’s grand finals between Gambit Esports and Team Envy. Gambit Esports won the match in a spectacular fashion, finishing with a clean 3-0 sweep.

The two teams had to eliminate some tough opponents on their way to the top. Team Envy first took down Sentinels, which was a real shocker, and proceeded to defeat 100 Thieves. Gambit had to contend with the Korean squad, Vision Strikers, and then G2 Esports soon after. Both teams gave it their all, but in the end, Gambit was simply superior.

Gambit Esports has been the top CIS team in Valorant Champions Tour, winning Stage 1 Masters and several CIS Challengers events. When they won the EMEA Stage 3 Challengers Playoffs, the world was surprised and excited to see how they’d perform in Berlin, but the overwhelming majority picked Sentinels as the number one candidate to win the tournament.

The squad exceeded all expectations and managed to win the VCT Masters in a spectacular fashion, taking down Envy on all three maps, and going home $225,000 richer. They now focus on the task ahead – and that’s VCT Champions.

Envy eliminates Sentinels

The first major surprise of this esports tournament happened in the second match of the VCT Masters Berlin playoffs. Envy fought against Sentinels and many expected Sentinels to easily take a win here considering the two teams clashed often in the past. However, Envy took both maps and finished with a 2-0 score, leading them into the semifinals against 100 Thieves.

This was the second loss Sentinels faced in this event, which was something unheard of up until this point. Keep in mind, this is the same team that won Masters in Reykjavík without losing a single map. Losing never feels fun, but it’s a reality of any esports. Sentinels will certainly learn from their mistakes and come back stronger in VCT Champions.

Envy, on the other hand, performed exceptionally well in this tournament. They finished second, which is an incredible accomplishment for this NA squad. We’re looking forward to seeing what they’ll do next.

VCT is almost over

The last Masters event is over, and all that remains now is the very apex of this tournament – VCT Champions. The event is scheduled in December, which still leaves us with a few months of downtime. Of course, there will be Valorant tournaments to fill in the gaps, but the more important question is – what happens after VCT Champions?

Riot Games will have to figure a way to either replace Valorant Champions Tour or make it into an annual tournament, something similar to Valve’s The International. This could also be a great opportunity to take a second look at the tournament format and see if something can be improved.

In any case, this has been an exciting ride and it’s not over yet. Gambit Esports is the new VCT Masters champion, but the ultimate winner will be decided in December.
