It is again that time of the year where the holidays are being celebrated within Hearthstone in the form of a Winter Veil event. Like with every event, there are special quests and special rewards that you can unlock, and this one will be available from December 21st to January 19th.
Unlock The Free Shaman Class Skin
Like with the previous event for Halloween where you could unlock the Pirate King Garrosh warrior skin for free, this time, you can unlock the Snowman Thrall Skin. It is a simple skin with a different portrait and you can unlock it by logging into the game, navigating to the shop, finding the skin in the shop (it should be at the top) and buying it for free. We are not sure why this is is not unlocked automatically, but it is what it is.
Free Card Packs
During the event, you will be able to complete a special holiday quest that does not take away from the regular 3 quest slots that you can queue up if you are not playing every day. There are a total of 3 quests in the chain, and each of them awards you with 1 Fractured In Alterac Valley pack and 1 Standard pack. Upon completing all 3 quests, you will have a total of 6 packs, 3 of each type.
For the first two quests, we suggest you simply play standard ranked with a fast deck like Face Hunter if you are planning to climb the ladder. The second option is to queue up a Warlock deck that will take away its health quickly, or just let your opponent defeat you while you are AFK, but it is not suggested to do this if you care about your rank.
The reason why these tactics are the best for the first two quests is because the first quest is to play 3 games in any game mode, and the second quest is to play 3 games of Ranked Standard. You do not have to win the games, all you have to do is get the games to be “played” by one of the heroes getting to 15 health before conceding.
The last quest in the chain will require you to play 3 games of Duels, and since you always get different options, we cannot suggest a strategy to finish the quest fast in this section in other ways than AFK-ing the games out after you make a random deck, or to actually play Duels, which we believe not many are fans of since it requires a lot of investment into the game to have all the required cards.
Finally, the last unlockables are in the tavern brawls. During the first week of the event, you will be able to play the Gift Exchange brawl, and by winning this brawl, you will get a Winter Veil Treat card back if you haven’t unlocked it before instead of a standard pack. Since you can use a wild deck in this game mode, opt for a deck that is advanced at destroying the presents and hope you get a good reward from it.
That’s all that this Winter Veil event has to offer when it comes to free unlockable content. Happy holidays and good luck with your games!
