Juniper Research Predicts 70% Growth For Esports And Games Streaming Within Four Years
We already know that the streaming of esports and live gaming is big business. Just how big it is, and how big it could become, is the subject of a new study from Juniper Research and the findings paint a very positive picture for the industry over the next four years.
As of 2021, the study reveals that Esports and Gaming Streaming is worth around $2.1 billion annually. However, the study also then goes on to predict that due to a number of factors including subscriptions to streaming platforms and advertising over streams, that this figure will grow by 70% to $3.5 billion a year by 2025.
Potential For Even Further Growth?
The study also suggests that these figures could actually be exceeded if stakeholders in the industry decide to invest in other areas that can generate revenue via streaming.
This includes negotiating broadcasting rights deals, improving live event ticket sales, establishing a greater number of high-value sponsorship deals which can capitalise on the ever-growing popularity of the esports industry at the moment.
The report echoes similar findings from 2019 from ResearchAndMarkets.com which also suggested that the global esports industry was set to continue booming until at least 2025 and that it could even continue to grow exponentially beyond that date.
It is also something we touched on earlier in January 2021, when we looked at how the esports industry would grow to a $2.3 billion industry by 2024
What Do The Figures Mean In Numbers?
What do the predictions by Juniper Research mean in actual tangible numbers of customers and live streams in esports and gaming? Well, Juniper Research reckons that by 2025, there will be over a billion viewers of esports and gaming streams.
That is an increase of 200 million from the 800 million projected viewers at the end of 2021.
Incredibly, this means that by 2025, one in nine of the global population of the world will be regularly tuning in to watch live esports or gaming streams online.
However, the expansion of the markets will not be uniformly spread across the world. The research predicts that it will be the potentially huge markets in Asia that will drive this swell in numbers, contributing over 50% of the new viewers by 2025.
In addition, another potentially lucrative and expansive market, Latin America, is also believed to be a key region for prodigious growth over the next four years. By 2025, it is estimated that the number of viewers in the Latin American region will have swelled to over 130 million.
Those predictions also follow the trend for companies to seek a presence and investment in these regions. We have already seen a number of big esports and esports betting companies making moves into both these markets in recent times.
Competition Driving Innovation And Expansion
The research also predicts that the rising levels of viewership will help create healthy competition between the main streaming platforms, such as YouTube and Twitch, and that these platforms will in turn look for ways to expand their appeal to new audiences.
This could come in the shape of teaming up esports events with popular forms of entertainment, TV, and Film, Music, etc, to try and attract a multi-discipline approach to attract new users to the services.
It is abundantly clear that there is plenty of scope for the esports industry to continue growing over the next few years, so this research is not a surprise. It merely echoes the thoughts of many within the industry that even though there has been huge growth within the esports industry in the last few years, we are still only scratching the surface as to how big esports and gaming could actually become.
