Golden Guardians vs Cloud9: LCS Summer 2022 Match Predictions and Analysis

Published: Jul 23, 2022 - Last Updated: Jul 24, 2023

This is a match between two sides who are tied in 6th place with four wins, but the two sides take pretty different approaches. Cloud9 have been a bit of a disappointment this season. They were excellent in the league stages in Spring season, finishing in 2nd place with 13 wins from 18 games. They are nowhere close to that now, which will be a worrying sign.

For Golden Guardians, this is a game against the side that knocked them out of the last playoffs 3-0 and a chance to get one back while they’re down. They won’t get many better chances to win against Cloud9.

Golden Guardians Should Have Nothing To Fear

Cloud9 are the favourites heading into this match, and the onus in on them to win this match but if Golden Guardians want to win this, they can’t give Cloud9 the sweet time to dictate the game. Unlike Cloud9, Golden Guardians like to finish their matches in under 32 minutes, and for this game, they need to get first blood quickly.

Their 44.4% rate isn’t too bad at the moment, but it needs to change a little so that Cloud9 are stupefied and unable to play the game at the pace they prefer. Golden Guardians also need to up their guard and the support Olleh will be crucial to this. He has averaged 0.68 kills, 2.9 deaths, 6.81 assists and 2.58 KDA. He needs to make sure that Golden Guardians don’t average at 11.6 deaths per game, which is the major difference in the metrics of the two teams this season.

“When I was a new player, I wanted every day to be super special. I wanted to have the pop-off performance every single day and I put a lot of pressure on myself. I wanted every day to be the day where everything would feel amazing,” Licorice told Inven Global. “Now, I’ve been here a while, so I’m like, ‘Okay, let’s go play on stage.’ It’s still cool and really fun to play on stage, but now it’s like ‘I don’t need it to be anything more than what it is.’

“I don’t need to stomp my opponent or win the game really hard, I just need to show up and do my best. I really think Lost and Olleh weren’t a good pairing together. The way they wanted to play was kind of contradictory, so they weren’t a good fit together. Having Trevor come back is a much better fit for the team and I think it helps us feel a lot more cohesive.”

Cloud9 Are Starting Games Too Slowly

With a first blood rate of 44.4% and 33.3% first tower rate, Cloud9 aren’t the type of team that gets off the blocks quickly, but it might be a good game to tweak things a little. They normally go about the game in a methodical fashion, taking just under 35 minutes to work their advantages, but that strategy hasn’t worked so far, and Golden Guardians aren’t an easy side to face when you’re not in form.

Top Laner Fudge and co need to be far more aggressive. There are bigger changes, both personnel and strategy-wise, due for this side but they can think about that after this season.

“I think we are more on the same page with this roster, even though we haven’t had much practice together,” C9’s Jensen said. “Things are going well for us in practice, so I would say we are more on the same page overall. It probably has to do with experience to some degree, but it feels more comfortable in-game. We’ve had four days of practice, and it’s actually been going really well. I think our results have definitely been better than expected, even against the better teams, so things are looking pretty good in terms of practice and development for the team.

“Honestly, I don’t really feel rusty when I play the game, even though I had the last split off. I think I’m doing pretty well and performing better than the players I play against, at least in practice. I don’t know — maybe I need a bit more time on stage to get back into the groove because, so far, I haven’t been too satisfied with my stage performance.”

Golden Guardians vs Cloud9 Predictions

LoL Predictions: This would’ve been an easy prediction last season, but things change very quickly in the LCS, and Golden Guardians have got a golden chance to get something against Cloud9. We think an upset might be on the cards here because all Golden Guardians need to do is get a good start. Cloud9 is not at its best ebb at the moment, and even a little mistake could shatter their confidence and get them to question their approach.
