Significance of the 2021 LCS Summer Season

Aside from greater sponsorship opportunities and a greater following for teams who perform successfully, the top 8 teams will qualify for the Summer Season Championship (previously known as playoffs).

Teams who have a better placement in the 2021 LCS Summer Season will gain easier seeding in the upcoming LCS 2021 Championship double-elimination bracket. Ultimately, the victor of the Championship will then gain North America’s first seed direct qualification to enter the main stage of the 2021 League of Legends World Championships.

LCS Summer Split Power Rankings – Top 3 Teams

1.Team Liquid

Team Liquid has consistently performed as one of North America’s top team, even entering the quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championships for the past three years.

Team Liquid looked very strong in the Spring Split earlier this year despite recently acquiring Alphari and Santorin at the end of 2020.

The team also secured second place in the Mid-Season Showdown, only narrowly losing to Cloud 9, 3-2, in the grand finals. However, as the team continues to mature without any new roster changes, it is highly Team Liquid will only improve and hence take the top spot in our LCS Summer Split Predictions.

2. Team SoloMid

Team SoloMid finished the 2020 season as North America’s top team, securing first place in the 2020 LCS Summer Playoffs, and the region’s number one seed to worlds.

Unfortunately, a major portion of TSM’s core players left the teams’ starting roster, namely; Bjergsen, Doublelift, Biofrost and Broken Blade. This led to Team SoloMid signing various top talent from different regions, essentially starting their roster afresh for 2021.

While many doubted TSM’s ability to retain their status as a top tier team, they proved all the speculators wrong. Team SoloMid finished top three in both the LCS Spring 2021 and 2021 Mid-Season Showdown.

Communication would have without a doubt been a challenge for TSM members, especially early in the year. However, heading into the second half of the year, these problems should have well improved. Such improvements will greatly elevate their play, especially as the individual talent on the team is all world-class.

The team’s first game in the Summer Split will be critical in determining upcoming LCS Summer Split Predictions. An early display of improvement in communication will lead to better rotations, team fights and shot calling, all of which may even elevate TSM to the top spot.

3. Cloud 9

Cloud 9 may have been the victor in the earlier 2021 LCS Spring season, however, their recent performance at MSI, along with a shocking roster swap has seriously placed doubts on the team’s ability to perform for the coming few weeks.

Cloud 9 finished 5th place at MSI, losing twice to PSG Talon in the rumble stage, a team coming from the PCS, a minor region. In an effort to thing change up and give a chance to a promising new talent from OCE, C9 has substituted in their academy bot player to the main roster! This controversial roster decision means Zven, a world-class ADC with numerous titled wins, will be moving to the academy team in favour of K1ng, an OCE talent who started competing in the LCS Academy league in early 2020.

Given the departure of a reliable world-class bot lane from the Cloud 9 starting roster, Cloud 9’s future is put into serious question. Even if K1ng is able to somehow outperform Zven in the future, taking into account his talent is continuously developing, the short-term outlook for C9 is shaky.
