LEC Spring Split 2021 playoff teams confirmed

Published: Mar 15, 2021

The League of Legends European Championship Spring 2021 standings and playoff teams have been confirmed.

The leaders

At the top as usual is G2 Esports. They came in first in the 2020 Spring and summer splits for the League of Legends European Championships and ended up in third place over all at the 2020 Season World Championships in Shanghai, China at the end of last year. They have been an absolutely dominant force in the European League of Legends professional scene in the past few years and they are poised to continue that tradition.

Our dark horse candidate

One of the teams that I did not expect to dominate so hard in this competition was Schalke 04. Their owners, the German football team of the same name are currently in debt to the tune of around 200 million euros. That was before the pandemic, who knows what state they are in now? They had even been considering selling their place in the League of Legends European Championships as a consequence of the current state of the organization’s economic issues in the Bundesliga.

They have been a top team in the past but with the current issues surrounding the parent company and their tenuous nature in the LEC, I had my doubts that they would do as well as they have. As it stands now, they have outperformed my LEC Spring season predictions and currently sit in the top bracket of the playoffs.

They have also become the new rivals of the British team, Excel who have been knocked out of the League of Legends European Championships playoffs for two years in a row. Both times they were knocked out by Schalke 04 and they must now consider their place in the League of Legends esports scene.

LEC Viewership

The League of Legends European Championships is some of the most popular esports tournaments for fans, not just in Europe, but all around the world. In February 2021, the LEC average concurrent viewership was 285,906. That is tens of thousands more than it was in 2020. They are growing in popularity as the years go on and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Surprising no one, the top match for viewership in the month of February was the G2 vs Fnatic game with 582,469 peak concurrent viewers.

The future for the LEC Spring Split

This is set to be a big year for League of Legends and if you are a regular reader of our site, a big year for League of Legends betting. For this first time in over a year, LEC teams will play in the Riot Games studio in Berlin for their triumphant return to stage play.
