NBA 2K League Season 3 Set For Tipoff on May 5th
Esports betting sites are getting ready for some keen wagering over the next few weeks as the third season of the NBA 2K League is due to begin on Tuesday 5th May. The competition begins with six weeks of remote gameplay.
Originally scheduled to start in March but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the expanded league, which now features 23 teams, begins with four matches on each of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings in each of the opening six weeks.
As with previous seasons, the 2020 season will be split into three in-season tournaments. The Tip Off and The Turn, which will feature all 23 teams, and then The Ticket. The Ticket will feature the 14 teams that have not claimed a place as a seed in the Playoffs, with just one of those teams earning the 10th and final playoff spot.
Matches will be streamed via the official NBA 2K channels on Twitch and YouTube each week.
“Stay Connected and Engage”
Speaking about the forthcoming tournament, the NBA 2K League MD Brendan Donohue stated:
“We are thrilled to officially tip off the 2020 NBA 2K League season remotely and hope the excitement of NBA 2K League competition provides both new and returning fans with a fun way to stay connected and engage with our league during these unprecedented times.”
“Our players have been quarantining with their teammates as they prepare for the season and will now have the opportunity to compete against one another and show they are the best players in the world.”
The new season also coincides with the launch of the THIS IS NOT A GAME campaign, promoting NBA 2K League as a “way of life, filled with hours of practice and preparation for a season of challenges, where only one team can emerge as champions.”
Steady Growth since 2018
The NBA 2K League had its inaugural season back in 2018, when 17 teams competed in the competition, which was won eventually by Knicks Gaming.
A year later, the league was expanded with the addition of four more teams and it was one of these expansion teams, the Minnesota-based Wolves Gaming, that were crowned the champions of season 2.
This year, the Shanghai-based Gen.G Tigers along with the Carolina’ based Venom GT will make their debut in a 23-team league that should be hugely entertaining given the built up to the event.
NBA 2K Draft 2020
Earlier this year, the organisers of the NBA 2K League organised a number of tournaments around the world for players to qualify for the NBA 2K Draft. The Draft took place in February and featured players released by teams competing in the tournament last year, alongside a number of qualifiers from the tournaments mentioned previously.
In the draft, the 23 teams drafted a total of 138 players from the pool to represent them in the league next season, adding to the players that each of the teams had retained from the previous season.
Interest in the third season is set to be high with an upsurge in NBA 2K betting expected as the season kicks off and then progresses through the first six weeks of action.
