NBA, WNBA and NBA2K League Strike Landmark Doordash Deal
In what is one of the first of its kind partnerships, the NBA, WNBA, and the NBA2K League have partnered with the on-demand delivery service DoorDash to become the first-ever official On-Demand Delivery Platform for the three organizations.
Supported by a glut of top NBA players including Aaron Gordon, Ja Morant, Bradley Beal, Jrue Holiday, Victori Oladipo and Donovan Mitchell, DoorDash is launching its own new social campaign called #PlayItForwartd Challenge.
The campaign is designed to sit alongside the Black Lives Matter movement that has gained particular support within the NBA. As part of the initiative, DoorDash are encouraging players and fans of the NBA, WNBA, and the NBA2K League to support Black-owned restaurants.
For every order placed from a Black-owned restaurant on the DoorDash platform from now until the end of August, Door Dash will donate $1, up to a maximum of $100,000 to the National Urban League.
Furthermore, any orders from a Black-owned restaurant on the platform will also see no delivery fees charged for the order.
Greater Inclusion
The move is part of the new goal for the NBA since the 2019-20 season restart of which sees the NBA trying to ensure “greater inclusion of Black-owned and operated businesses across NBA business activities” and to “find tangible and sustainable ways to address racial inequality across the country.”
The company has seen a huge swell in support after launching its program to support Black-owned businesses in the United States and Canada. In June 2020, there was an increase of 275x the standard amount of searches for Black-owned businesses, compared to May 2020 and the number of orders to Black-owned businesses increased by 50% in July 2020 too, once again compared to the month before.
Indeed, users of the DoorDash platform can easily find which restaurants are part of the offer simply by using the keywords “Black Owned” when they search on the site. This will then bring up a list of establishments in their neighborhood which are part of the offer.
Food for Thought for Esports Fans Too
While having a high profile in the NBA and WNBA broadcasts and coverage, DoorDash will also become a prominent partner in the NBA 2K League too. The company will be the first Presenting Partner of the league during the Playoffs and Finals.
Part of that deal will see DoorDash responsible for “executing in-game activations that will bring fans special moments and relevant experiences through custom integrations and features.” In addition, DoorDash will also be an associate partner of future marquee events during NBA All-Star weekend too.
The 2020 NBA2K League Playoffs delivered by DoorDash will start on Thursday 20 August and will run through until the NBA2K League Finals delivered by DoorDash, which will be completed on Saturday 29 August.
Esports fans can tune in on the official NBA2K League Twitch Channel to view the matches taking place in the playoffs and finals, in addition to selected matches being shown like on the NBA2K League’s YouTube Channel.
