Published: Dec 30, 2019 - Last Updated: Oct 10, 2022

If you are a fan of the top League of Legends teams in the world, but are based in the UK, then it has been something of a quiet time for you in terms of top-quality action within the country. The last time a top League of Legends esports tournament was played in the UK was back in 2015.

However, from Sunday January 12th 2020, that is all set to change with the announcement of the Neosurf Cup, featuring the UK-based LEC team Excel Esports, as well as Misfits and LG Direwolves, offering UK LoL fans the chance to watch some of the top players in the world in action.

Preview for LEC 2020 Spring Season

The tournament, which will be held at Excel Esports Twickenham base, will serve as a warmup for forthcoming LEC 2020 Spring Split, which will get underway shortly for Excel Esports, as well as giving British LoL fans a chance to witness some high-quality action in person.

Tickets are free for the event and can be purchased from a number of outlets.

The tournament will see Excel Esports full roster in action as they are given a pre-LEC season starting work out by taking on Misfits in a best-of-five contest.

Other events include the opportunity for fans and players in attendance at the event to test their skills as they take on the professionals from some of the competing teams in special 1V1 events.

In addition to organising the event, Excel Esports have secured sponsorship from Neosurf to help promote the tournament and in a recent Tweet, the company announced that a number of top broadcasters will be in attendance including Belgian Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere, as well as the UK-based trio Frankie Ward, Dan “Foxdrop” Wyatt and Aaron “Medic” Chamberlain.

Who are Neosurf?

Neosurf is a payment method that is accepted by many bookmakers around the world and which is also used by many in the esports betting industry to fund their gambling. Sites like bet365 esports and Betway esports accept Neosurf payments for all forms of betting, including esports betting and it seems likely that with such a high-profile sponsor, there will be extensive esports betting markets available on the Neosurf Cup, from a range of esports betting providers, nearer the time.

It will also allow those with an interest in the esports betting markets available for the start of the 2020 League of Legends season, the Spring Split, to see how the Excel Esports team is shaping up ahead of their forthcoming campaign to become the best team in Europe and then, perhaps, the best team in the world at the LoL World Championship later this year.

New Patch

As well as the activities outlined above, players will mingle with fans and there are also goodiebags on offer for attendees, as well as the chance to win other items on offer provided by the sponsors of the event.

Excel will also show off their new 2020 season jerseys in the tournament for the first time.

However, many fans will likely be most excited to see the new patch for the 2020 League of Legends season, their first chance to witness how the new meta may shape the future of the 2020 Spring and Summer Splits across the world.
