Neymar Jr X Fortnite collaboration teased by Epic Games

Epic Games and Brazilian soccer player Neymar are currently teasing an appearance by the star athlete in Fortnite on March 16th, with clues coming in via a couple of tweets.

The tweets

The Epic Games account tweeted out a couple of short videos teasing the release of Fortnite Season 6. In this season, it looks like the players will be dealing with a first in its history solo Battle Royale event called Zero Crisis Finale. The single-player mission is bridging the gap between seasons and will be available from 16th March, whenever you first log into the upcoming Chapter 2 Season 6.

As usual, Fortnite fan accounts dissected the tweets and the videos with their usual ruthless efficiency and found hints that Neymar would be involved in the game. They found the number 10, his number, in the video and graphical references to the Brazil Cup football design. After Neymar retweeted the teaser with the curious eyes emoji, it has all but been confirmed.

Fortnite and football

This isn’t the first time that Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite, have dipped their toes into the world of football. Earlier this year, they introduced The Kickoff Set.

As part of the set, they added 23 football club outfits, each with a male and female variant. Some of the teams available include Manchester City, Inter Milan, Celtic FC, and West Ham United. Santos FC, the long-time club of football legend Pele, will be featured in the game. Like the other teams, they will have their kit in the game as well as a custom emote of Pele’s famous air punch. They are also hosting the Pele Star Cup, another Fortnite tournament.

In January, English football club Manchester City partnered up with the North American esports organisation FaZe Clan to host a Fortnite Tournament. The event was called The FaZe City Cup. The players at the tournament were made up from members of the FaZe Clan Fortnite roster as well as Manchester City player Kevin De Bruyne.

Football and esports

In late 2020, the Premier League and EA announced season three of the ePremier League. Players can compete in the game FIFA 21 in a tournament that will give them the chance to win some titles for their favourite Premier League team. You have already missed the date to sign up for this event, but the online qualifiers are currently being held.

In 2019, the FA launched England’s first esports team: eLions. The FA started with a search for FIFA 19 players to represent the Three Lions at the inaugural FIFA eNations Cup.

If you are interested in the esports betting scene surrounding Fortnite or European esports in general, you could do a lot worse than hedging your bets and checking out some of the teams that have partnered with football clubs or are run by them. They will have a level of investment and training that other organisations may not have the resources to provide. If you want to dip your tow in Fortnite betting, check out some major teams with traditional sports support.
