OWL 2023 Summer Stage Knockouts Betting Notes – Format and Schedule

As the penultimate event of the season, it’s a good time to consider Overwatch betting.

Taking place between 26th August and 10th September, the online event features the top 12 teams in the Overwatch League East region as seeded:

  • East Qualifiers – Dallas Fuel, Seoul Infernal, Hanzghou Spark, Seoul Dynasty, Dreamers, Shanghai Dragons, PANTHERA, O2 Blast, Poker Face, Guangzhou Charge
  • East Opens – Sin Prisa Gaming, Rhodes

The format for this Playoffs-type event is rather simple, with the 12 teams split into two groups of 6, trying to crawl out of the Group and defy the Overwatch odds.

Within each group, a double elimination bracket will sort out the competition – here’s how they’ve been sorted:

  • Group A – Poker Face, PANTHERA, Rhodes, Dreamers, Dallas Fuel, Hangzhou Spark
  • Group B – Guangzhou Charge, O2 Blast, Sin Prisa Gaming, Shanghai Dragons, Seoul Infernal, Seoul Dynasty

The stakes involve seeding into the Play-Ins and ultimately, the Playoffs in the post-season – the biggest prize pools and Overwatch tournaments all year long.

In these betting notes, we’ll be taking a look at some of the scheduled matches which are notable esports betting opportunities:

August 26th 2023

  • Poker Face vs PANTHERA (10:00 CEST)
  • Guangzhou Charge vs O2 Blast (13:00 CEST)
  • San Prisa Gaming vs Shanghai Dragons (14:30 CEST)

OWL 2023 Summer Stage Knockouts Betting Preview

Poker Face vs PANTHERA

In this opening Group A match-up, two Contenders teams are facing off in order to book their seat in the Upper Bracket Semifinals.

The esports betting prediction here is simplified by the fact that both teams competed in the OWL Summer Stage Qualifiers East. Here, PANTHERA ranked higher than Poker Face, with Poker Face only walking away with a single win.

Simply put, this looks like an opening win for PANTHERA.

  • Predictions: Poker Face (1-3) PANTHERA
  • Odds: Poker Face Outright Win (+120), PANTHERA Outright Win (-172)

Guangzhou Charge vs O2 Blast

This match is not as it seems. Sure, we all recognize the franchised organization of Guangzhou Charge compared to O2 Blast.

However, Guangzhou flunked the Qualifiers, placing last out of the ten competing teams, with O2 Blast placing higher them thanks to earning one more win.

Regardless, the esports betting sites are favouring Guangzhou’s experience, though O2 Blast have a serious shot at winning here.

  • Predictions: Guangzhou Charge (3-2) O2 Blast
  • Odds: Guangzhou Charge Outright Win (-161), O2 Blast Outright Win (+115)
  • Betting Site: GG.Bet

San Prisa Gaming vs Shanghai Dragons

The tale takes an opposite turn for the third match we’ll be previewing – without a question, Shanghai Dragons are favoured against San Prisa Gaming.

As an East Open team, San Prisa hasn’t had the chance to match up against the Tier 1 of Overwatch teams. Although Shanghai Dragons may not be in their most fierce form, they are favoured to start their Bracket run with a win here as according to the esports odds.

  • Predictions: San Prisa Gaming (0-3) Shanghai Dragons
  • Odds: San Prisa Gaming Outright Win (+190), Shanghai Dragons Outright Win (-286)
  • Betting Site: GG.Bet
