PlayVIG unveils esports competition with a difference
The Las Vegas-based competitive gaming platform PlayVIG have just announced a brand new kind of esports tournament. This will see gamers competing to get top place on a leaderboard that rates their gameplay on a wide range of esports such as Fortnite and League of Legends. The tournament is free to enter, and it has some impressive cash prizes on offer.
The competition is called Universal Leaderboards and it uses a special system that awards points for your gaming performance. This system is able to analyse the points earned across games like Fortnite, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Rocket League, League of Legends and Heartstone. The points will be gathered together to produce one main leaderboard that ranks all of the competitors – regardless of the game that they have been playing.
The brand have already paid out over $1 million in prize pool winnings, and they will be giving gamers chance to win virtual coins that can then be swapped for real money or exclusive prizes.
At the moment, the Universal Leaderboards competition is only available to PC gamers, but PlayVIG have stated that they will soon be opening it up to console and mobile users. The Universal Points System is an interesting way to try and flatten out the difference between different esports to work out who the best gamer is across a range of video games.
The Universal Points System is based on analysis of over seven billion gaming events that cover titles ranging from League of Legends to Teamfight Tactics. There are currently over 400,000 users of the PlayVIG gaming platform, and all will be able to pick up points on any of the games featured to chart their progress on the Universal Leaderboard.
The full list of games supported by PlayVIG includes Fortnite, Apex Legends, League of Legends, Rocket League, Brawlhalla, Teamfight Tactics, Magic: The Gathering Arena, Hearthstone, Overwatch and Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.
PlayVIG state that there will be hundreds of free-to-play quests and leaderboards for the tournament, and that it is open for gamers of all skill levels. In order to get started, you will need to register with the PlayVIG site, and then download their lightweight application.
This will automatically track your gameplay without any annoying time lag, and then you will be instantly rewarded for your gaming performance with coins. The coins can be redeemed at the PlayVIG store for anything ranging from an EWin Knight Series Gaming Chair to a $100 Steam gift card.
In addition to the Universal Leaderboard, there will be special Weekend Warrior tournaments. These serve up prize pools of $500 each week, and there are also two Weekday Warrior competitions that give gamers the chance to take a share of the $250 prize winnings.
PlayVIG came in the scene in 2014, and they have already hosted over 25 million gaming events. Their Universal Leaderboards competition looks to be an innovative new way to test your gameplay skills.
