Spirit
Spirit are hands down the best team of 2024 so far, showing no signs of slowing down. Many people expected their performance to drop off after their success in Katowice, but they seem to be getting better with every tournament. While Danil “donk” Kryshkovets isn’t dropping ridiculous 1.70 ratings in every single map, his teammates continue to play at a very high level, even in high-pressure matches.
To nobody’s surprise, Spirit finished the Elimination Stage with a 3-0 record, losing only one map to a well-playing NAVI. They also convincingly beat Cloud9, who, despite the criticism, turned out to be a contender team in Copenhagen. However, Spirit’s wins aren’t as dominant as they used to be, as confirmed by Justinas “jL” Lekavicius, who said on the broadcast that they are beatable.
Although going 3-0 in the Elimination Stage should be beneficial for the team’s seeding, Spirit drew the short end of the straw and matched up with FaZe. While Spirit had the upper hand on the PGL Antwerp Major Champions in Katowice, the international roster now has a better idea of what it’s like to play against a firing-on-all-cylinders Spirit squad, which should make it a much more interesting affair.
FaZe
The great procrastinators have done it again – started the tournament slow, played unconvincing CS, and still qualified for the playoffs. No matter how much success FaZe enjoys, they always make their fans endure unnecessary stress in group-stage games. Thankfully, the Elimination Stage is over and a packed-out Royal Arena awaits the most consistent team in CS2.
FaZe’s journey to the playoffs was difficult, to say the least – early losses to Heroic and Eternal Fire meant that they had to dig deep and battle through from the 1-2 bracket. While they haven’t set the tournament alight, FaZe pulled themselves together and ground out results against Imperial and Complexity, netting themselves a precious Major playoff spot.
Now that FaZe will be playing on the stage in front of a sold-out crowd, with the Danish fans cheering them on (because of Finn “karrigan” Andersen), the international squad should ascend to their usual high level of gameplay. The fact that they’ll want to get revenge on Spirit for humiliating them in Katowice will motivate them even more and elevate the quality of the matchup as well.
Spirit vs FaZe Odds & Prediction
As for PGL Copenhagen betting, GG.Bet have Spirit as heavy favorites to take down FaZe for the second time in big event playoffs and go further in the competition. Going off their form at the Major alone, that is the most likely outcome.
However, the circumstances favor FaZe in many ways. They have a vastly more experienced roster, especially in Major playoff games, they played against Spirit before, so they know what to expect, and they are hungry for revenge, which should give them a bit more pep in their step inside the server.
One thing is for sure, it will be a much more competitive affair, than their previous meeting.
