TES vs T1 – Worlds 2024 Match Predictions & Analysis

Two historic heavyweights with plenty of World Championship experience, TOP Esports and T1 line up for a massive Worlds 2024 quarter-final clash. It’s a rematch of the Swiss Stage Round 1 matchup – a game that saw TOP the victors in a best-of-one. Now in a best-of-five, either side needs to perform best across a gruelling series to move on to the semis.

TES vs T1 Match Analysis & Odds

TOP is the more in-form team out of the two. Though they failed to claim a title so far this year, they put in impressive displays in the LPL — the world’s most stacked region — and spent periods as the best-performing team in China.

T1 was victorious the last time these two met; in the final of the Esports World Cup. But that wasn’t as key of a tournament as Worlds and saw a few teams underperform. Domestically, T1 have been in Gen.G’s shadow for years and failed to look like a serious contender throughout the season. That said, Faker’s leadership always makes them a threat at Worlds and the GOAT has never finished outside of the top four whenever he’s attended. They’re always amongst the favourites when it comes to LoL Worlds betting, owing to their stack of titles and current status as World Championship holders.

In all, T1 enter the series as the slimmest of favourites with LoL Worlds odds of 1.75 to win the series. Top’s odds trail just behind at 1.95.

TOP Esports and T1 our Prediction

For Top, their route to victory is through the bottom lane. AD carry JackeyLove has shaken off his previous inconsistency issues and now regularly performs as one of the best in his role on the planet. Lane opponent Gumayusi never really elevated to the elite level expected of him and champion pool issues raise question marks around his chances against the best bot laners at Worlds.

For T1, they still hold elite talent of their own with the likes of Zeus counted amongst the best in his role, but it’s Faker’s shot-calling ability in the mid lane that could be the difference. His game knowledge is unparalleled and, despite not having the ‘hands’ that he used to, his leadership more than makes up for it and becomes crucial in these most important matches.

Though Top’s form should make them favourites on paper, I’m a sucker for Faker and his X factor on the biggest stage. I’d expect his presence to be the difference for the Korean side, allowing them to edge out a 3-1 win.

Prediction: T1 3-2 Top Esports (@5.30 at Betway)

A 3-2 win for T1 would also ensure a game-five win for the Koreans. For the deciding map, I can envisage Faker and his squad using their macro expertise to choke out Top and drag out the match in the process. I would expect map 5 to go beyond 37 minutes at odds of 4.00.

That final win for T1 could very likely be proceeded by a win by Top. It’s one for T1 to invoke their macro prowess for the last map. A map 4 win for Top Esports, as with any other, would be led by superstar bot laner JackeyLove, and so a pentakill for the 2018 Worlds winner could be on the cards. Odds for a map 4 pentakill currently sit at 11.00.
