Unikrn Launches Skill-Based Game Betting Feature Umode

Published: Dec 30, 2018 - Last Updated: Jul 18, 2023

Esports betting company Unikrn has announced a new feature for its popular betting platform – Umode. The new service for skill-based game wagering will allow gamers to engage in player-vs-house betting while playing their favorite game.

Heightening gameplay

Utilizing the new feature, users will be able to place a bet and play a fair match using their game’s matchmaking rating. Through player-vs-house betting, gamers can place bets on their normal matches and don’t have to bet directly against other players. Placing a bet, for example, on whether they can achieve a certain goal in a game, bettors are relying on their own skill to complete the objective.

“Unikrn is built by gamers and is striving to give fans a way to heighten gaming even more,” Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood said in a statement. “Over [the] years, our fans have begged us for a way to back their own games and make their matchmaking more interesting, and now we’ve developed a way to do so which avoids the pitfalls of traditional players-vs-player skill betting.”

Umode, a service running on blockchain-based technology, is already live in multiple countries around the world, including 41 US states. It currently offers betting on League of Legends, Fortnite, and Dota 2.

“UMode gives players fair odds based on their play history and doesn’t require all participants to place a bet,” Unikrn Chief Operating Officer Andrew Vouris said. “With a player-vs-house model, we cut out sharks, we cut out waiting, and we give players better odds. Unikrn wants to give a fair, exciting experience, so we’ve changed what’s possible.”

Founded in 2014, Unikrn owns a crypto gambling license from the Isle of Man, a regulator known for its rigorous standards. According to the company, it’s the world’s first regulated operator to offer live esports betting for both fiat and crypto-currencies. Over the last few years, the company has launched various features on its website to cater to esports bettors.

A promising esports betting operator

Over the past few years, the Mark Cuban and Ashton Kutcher-backed company has consistently made headlines with its business endeavors.

While it’s been rolling out various services and adding games to its offerings, by utilizing the latest technology like blockchain to distinguish themselves from other operators, Unikrn has gained an edge to further secure market share in an industry that only keeps growing. Listening to fans and users has been the key, they claim.

“Most crypto and blockchain companies build engineering-heavy solutions that are so user-unfriendly that it’s almost impossible for consumers to adopt,” Sood added to his statement. “We build platforms around the user experience. Blockchain helps us in a highly regulated business.”
