Sentinels are the fan favorites

Beloved by all Valorant fans, not many predicted Sentinels would make it this far considering that they barely made it into VALORANT Champions. They were not even considered among the best VALORANT teams ahead of the event.

On the back of a good showing at VCT Masters Madrid 2024, they haven’t done much all season, missing out on the remaining international tournaments.

Seeded as the third North American seed into Group B against Gen.G Esports and Team Heretics, expectations were fairly low. Yet after falling early, they made it to the Playoffs after taking down favorites Gen.G against all VALORANT odds.

After taking down DRX in the Upper Bracket, they fell to EDward Gaming and defeated Fnatic to stay alive. Finally, after months of disappointment, this Sentinels team seems to be returning to their best form, being as clutch as ever. However, the road ahead is brutal.

EDward Gaming had an easy run?

EDward Gaming, a Chinese team, have been accused of enjoying an easier Playoffs run than others. We wouldn’t agree with this claim, considering this leading Chinese team had to fight out of a Group with Paper Rex and G2 Esports.

After sending Paper Rex home, one of the VALORANT tournament favorites, EDward Gaming were gifted with an opening Upper Bracket match against their Chinese rivals, Trace Esports. Following this easy match, they took Sentinels to a final map, destroying them on Sunset 13-6.

Now matched up against Leviatan, odds are stacked against them as EDward Gaming is considered the lowest-ranked team from the remaining competitors.

However, unlike EDward Gaming of old, a new priority on teamwork over individual play could see this team set a new record for Chinese VALORANT.

Leviatan are the Reapers

Ever since suffering the most significant upset of the tournament against Trace Esports, Leviatan has looked unstoppable. Specifically, they’ve gone on to sweep every single competitor including Vitality in Groups, G2 Esports & Team Heretics in the Playoffs.

Besides their superb firepower and teamwork, Leviatan’s map pool looks incredibly strong. Specifically, an advantage for them seems to be their Abyss – out of the four remaining teams, they’ve managed to adapt to the newest map the quickest which will prove helpful in longer matches.

With arguments growing over designating Erick “aspas” Santos as the best VALORANT players of all-time, another World Championship title for this veteran would definitely cement his legacy. In addition, “C0M” is hoping to go back-to-back after winning the title last year with Evil Geniuses.

Leviatan is the favourite according to esports odds.

Heretics want to be EMEA’s last hope

As the last-standing representative for EMEA, Heretics has every chance to make a run to the Grand Final from the Lower Bracket. All season long, regardless of their roster changes, they’ve managed to always place in the top 3 of every tournament except VCT Masters Madrid.

Back at VCT Masters Shanghai, Team Heretics went on an epic run in the Lower Bracket, taking down three teams to make it to the Grand Final and lose 3-2 to Gen.G. Coming out on top in Group B, this young team has remained undefeated except for their match against Leviatan where a bittersweet 15-13 loss on Icebox knocked them down.

Now in the Lower Bracket Semifinal, they are favourites to take down Sentinels and EDward Gaming should they face them. From the remaining teams, Team Heretics has the best chance to stop Leviatan from walking away with it.
