VCT 2022 Masters Copenhagen is coming to an end. After the group stage and playoffs, teams are just one step away from the Grand Final. After a three-day break, Paper Rex and OpTic Gaming will take the stage again for the Upper-Bracket Final. This time in front of a stadium full of people.

The two teams will face each other for the first time and fight to be the first team to reach the final. Apart from their strengths and weaknesses, both teams have had an outstanding tournament. Now it’s up to the team that can stay calm and perform in front of thousands of people to emerge victorious.

Paper Rex, the best team in the APAC region, started Masters Copenhagen from the playoffs with the advantage of being the first seed. From time to time, this advantage turned into a disadvantage for some teams, but Paper Rex didn’t let that happen and defeated their opponents one by one. They defeated Guild Esports and then Fnatic, sending the EMEA representatives to the lower-bracket successively. In doing so, they managed to emphasize both their individual and team play.

Paper Rex’s biggest challenge will be playing in front of a large group of fans. With a young roster, the team is not used to playing in front of large crowds in such a big tournament. This can have two effects: 1- it motivates the players and makes them perform at a higher level, 2- it makes them panic and they play worse than expected.

On the OpTic side, things are a bit more positive. Even though they started the tournament with a loss and had some undesirable results in some maps in the playoff run, they are a team with a very high mental level. Thanks to this, they manage to come back from all kinds of difficulties and get the result they want. This makes them a tough roster to beat.

In addition, Marved, one of the best players of the event so far, will have to continue his tremendous play. Otherwise, OpTic could be in a tough spot against their opponent. On the top of that, OpTic’s roster is full of experienced players. Many of the players and coaches in the roster have LAN experience, which could stand out against Paper Rex.

In a series where both sides have equal chances, I think OpTic are one step ahead.

Two EMEA teams will fight tooth and nail for survival in the Lower-Bracket Semifinal. The teams, who were also in the same group in EMEA Stage 2, have played against each other so many times this season that they became very familiar with each other’s playing styles. So much so that this series will be their 6th meeting against each other in 2022.

One thing that stands out is that Fnatic have won all of these series. The European giant started the 2022 season on a high note with two new signings. First, they dominated their region and then made it all the way to the Masters Copenhagen playoffs without a loss. Here, however, they ran into Paper Rex and were relegated to the lower-bracket.

Since the last piece of FunPlus Phoenix, SUYGETSU, joined the team, there has been an increase in the roster’s performance. However, it is unlikely to be enough against Fnatic.

In a series of teams that will once again take their rivalry to the stage in front of the fans, Fnatic are one step ahead.
