Donate WeSave Charity Play Match Revenue To Charity, Rivalry Says

Published: Mar 24, 2020

One of the world’s leading eSports betting platforms, Rivalry, has announced its commitment to donating all revenue generated by the WeSave Charity Play matches on their website to charity.

In a Twitter post on the 20th March the charity organisers stated they’re “appealing to ALL betting companies not to accept bets on the matches unless they are also planning to donate their revenues.”

Rivalry released a more in-depth statement on their blog, detailing why they’re happy to comply.

Uniting to Defeat COVID19

Industries around the world have struggled with the Coronavirus challenge this past few months. We’ve seen companies in all industries stepping up their efforts to help those struggling financially and emotionally. Rivalry is among thousands of companies pushing to “do the right thing”. It is quite refreshing seeing them choosing a charitable cause.

Some experts believe charities will be among the worst-hit industries, with donations severely drying up. Indeed, WePlay designed the competition to help channel donations to two charities during the pandemic. You can learn more about WeSave Charity play later on in this post.

In their extended statement, Rivalry stated that – they’re unable to publish internal data from the charity matches. They will  however, be happy to share that information with WePlay privately. They also state that this will be facilitated in a way that makes sure everyone will be comfortable with the decision.

What is WeSave Charity Play

WeSave Charity Play is a 24-team, single-elimination global charity tournament that offers up a total combined prize pool of $120,000. It’s important to note that this figure doesn’t include donations. Donations would likely add significantly more funds  to the total raised from the event.

The tournament features professional athletes from all corners of the world. Additionally, the entirety of the prize pool (along with any donations collected during the streaming of the event) will be divided equally between two charities; CEPI and GlobalGiving.

CEPI are a vaccine research company who help finance and coordinate the “development of new vaccines to prevent and contain infectious disease epidemics.”

GlobalGiving is a well-known nonprofit that helps to connect donors with grassroots projects around the world, allowing donations to get into the right hands – in less time.

The WeSave Charity Play tournament is being broadcast in English on Twitch, and you can watch the official broadcast here. Finally, WePlay! Esports posts regular updates on their Twitter page.
