William Hill’s Joint Esports Venture With GLHF.gg Goes Live

Published: May 23, 2019 - Last Updated: May 28, 2019

A short time ago, one of the most prominent name in the UK gambling industry, William Hill, made a move to acquire a number of new businesses. The deal, which saw William Hill absorb the likes of Mr Green, Red Bet, and other iGaming domains, has allowed William Hill to establish a new base in Malta. That’s now the home base for the company’s expansion into emerging territories.

Now, William Hill has acquired the rights to GLHF.gg.

What is GLHF.gg?

Previously, if you want to bet on esports at William Hill, you had to log into its sports betting service and locate the esports section. While this part of the site is fine for general esports betting, it is not what you could call an esports hub. The focus here is solely on the betting side.

Now, before its takeover, Mr Green actively sought ways to engage the esports community. They wanted to create a site that would effectively become a one-stop shop for people interested in esports and esports betting. The net result was not one, but two sites. GLHF.gg deals with the more unusual games and esports betting options. Then, BetGLHF.gg is the place where you can go to play for real money.

Seeing as the latter is likely more familiar to those interested in esports betting, let’s start there.

How does betGLHF.gg work?

Once registered at betGLHF.gg, players can view live streams. Of course, there are betting menu options that will allow you to place a large number of esports bets. In addition to the standard betting services, you can also participate in a number of challenges that the earning of points, or XP (and eventually GLHF Gold), on the site.

And what about GLHF.gg?

This site offers a different betting experience for customers. It focuses more on the player experience in viewing streams and allowing them to earn XP while they view streams. They can also complete challenges on the site.

If a registered customer elects to view a stream, they can enter a number of competitions on that stream for free. If they enter the competition and win, then they can win XP, which are added to their total. The more streams they watch and the more they engage with the challenges, quizzes, and other promotions, the more XP they can earn.

When you have accumulated enough XP, you can level up. When you do, you will trade your XP in for GLHF Gold. This is, in effect, the site’s virtual currency. You can collect GLHF Gold and spend it in the GLHF.gg shop, which features a number of items for sale. These can’t be bought with cash.

Other details

You only need one account to register for both sites. And, of course, while your cash account is kept separate from your XP and GLHF Gold accounts, you can utilize both on both sites. One nice touch is that when you are eligible for a reward, a red dot next to the My Rewards section of the site will light up.

Although both sites have just been released, they are making waves in an already competitive esports betting industry. We’ll see how these sites take off over the next 12 months and whether they attract a whole new raft of customers to esports streaming and cash betting.
