LoL Worlds 2021 Semifinals – DK vs T1

After their 3-0 win against MAD Lions, DK is still undefeated in this year’s Worlds 2021. They’ve been undoubtedly the most consistent team in the tournament, as they’re looking to repeat last year’s success. For the time being, however, they need to go up against their compatriots T1.

The two have already fought each other during the LCK Summer Finals: that time, DK won the championship 3-1. While it wasn’t the closest of the series, T1 was one of the few teams that could take a win a best-of-series. This time around, they might even put up a bigger fight.

T1’s Worlds 2021 run has been great so far. The legendary organization came first in their group, finishing 5-1, but most importantly, beating the LPL team Edward Gaming. The first seed allowed them to have an “easier” time in the quarterfinals, as they swept the other Korean team Hanwha Life Esports. Now, they will have to face yet another Korean team, the toughest one yet.

EDG vs Gen.G

In the second semifinal match, EDG, the last Chinese team left, will go up against LCK’s 2nd seed Gen.G. Their run until now, though, wasn’t a walk in the park.

As we previously mentioned, T1 took first place in the Groups Stage, leaving EDG in second. The lower seeding penalized the LPL team, as they would need to face a Number 1 seed from other groups. While they did avoid the worst enemy DK, they were drawn with their own compatriots RNG. That meant that one of the two was surely going to be eliminated in the quarterfinals. After a 5-game series, it was RNG who had to leave Iceland, and EDG earned themselves their first Worlds semifinals.

On the other hand, Gen.G was a bit of a surprise in this year’s Worlds 2021. After collapsing several times in important moments, it seems like everything is clicking this year. Coming into the tournament as the second seed thanks to the championship points, Gen.G came out victorious from a first historic tiebreaker. (all teams finished 3-3)

In the quarterfinals, they quickly swept Cloud9 3-0, showing that there’s still a lot to catch up to do for western teams. With that being said, there are still some doubts about Gen.G’s real level of play. Their group didn’t exactly help understand how strong they are and the series with Cloud9 didn’t make it any better. Therefore, their real test is coming next. Their series against EDG will finally tell us Gen.G’s strengths and if Korea is actually the best region in the world.

Worlds 2021 Semifinals predictions

In conclusion, we expect DK to come out ahead 3-2. T1 will do its best to bring the series to 5 games, but in the end, DK should still come out victorious. This will likely be the best series of the tournament: don’t miss it.

As for the other match, EDG is favored compared to Gen.G. The LCK team will likely take a win in the series, but the LPL Summer Champions shouldn’t have problems advancing to the finals. A 3-1 score is expected, but I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a 3-0 by EDG.
