Wrath of the Lich King Arrives in 2022
If you’re a diehard World of Warcraft fan that’s simply not interested in the new WoW Dragonflight expansion, then you’ll be happy to hear that Blizzard is bringing back the classic Wrath of the Lich King expansion in 2022.
The fans of the classic version of the game will be able to embark to the icy shores of Northrend to fight the legendary villain, the Lich King. The exact date has not been confirmed, but given how we’re still on the Black Temple patch, it’s safe to assume it’s coming sometime around fall.
Facing Arthas Once Again
World of Warcraft has had its fair share of memorable villains, but none of them come close to the legendary Lich King. The lore behind the character was first established in the early Warcraft 3 games where we followed the story of a young and noble paladin from Lordaeron, Arthas Menethil.
Throughout his journey, Arthas made some questionable choices and ended up becoming the very thing he fought against, the king of the very Scourge he sought to destroy.
Now, Arthas rules Northrend as the Lich King, plotting his next move from the peaks of the Icecrown Citadel. It’s time for the WoW fans to face this threat once again, and put an end to the Scourge menace once and for all.
Level 70 Boost
The new classic expansion comes with some pretty massive changes, and some of them are quite controversial.
The first change we’ll mention is the level 70 boost. Just like the Burning Crusade’s level 58 boost, the players will be able to purchase a single boost to take their character from level 1 to level 70 in a click of a button. This allows new players to skip the old story and get straight into the Northrend action.
This was received with mixed reactions, just like the previous boost, where one group of fans embraces it while the other strictly opposes the boost. Both have some valid arguments, though. But this decision ultimately lies in the hands of Blizzard, and it looks like they’re going through with it.
No Dungeon Finder
In their announcement, Blizzard said there would be no Dungeon Finder (LFD) in Wrath of the Lich King. This came as quite a shock for many of the fans as this feature was originally introduced in this expansion. It sparked countless discussions on various WoW social media sites and many fans are up in arms about this decision.
The reason Blizzard decided not to include this in the Wrath of the Lich King was because they wanted to preserve the classic community feel where players have to interact to form dungeon groups.
As always, they could change this after the beta testing period if enough fans raise their voice. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Death Knights
If there’s one thing that truly defined this expansion, it’s the introduction of the new hero class – the Death Knight. These killing machines were originally created to be the tools of the Lich King and do his bidding, but in a surprise twist, they broke away from their former master and now find themselves on our side.
Death Knights will be the new playable class and you’ll be able to create a Death Knight regardless whether you already had a level 55 character on the server or not. This was also one of the new changes Blizzard introduced. Originally, you had to have an existing 55 character or higher in order to create a Death Knight.
Additionally, players will be able to create a Death Knight even in the pre-patch, which will give them plenty of time to get them to 70 and fully gear them up in preparation for the expansion.
This will definitely open more options for the players with fresh new accounts. Expect to see Outland zones flooded with Death Knights as soon as the WotLK pre-patch hits!
Inscription
Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a brand-new profession called Inscription. It will utilize various herbs to create pigments and inks, and you’ll need a lot of them!
The best WoW guilds will most likely start to stockpile both Azeroth and Outland herbs to quickly power level Inscription once Wrath of the Lich King is out. The reason why Inscription will be important is because of the powerful new Darkmoon Faire trinkets which will be highly important for progression raiding.
So, if you haven’t already leveled Herbalism, now’s a good time! Make sure to save a good chunk of the herbs you gather in the wild and toss them in the bank. The prices will also skyrocket later, so there will be some great gold making opportunities as well.
