Lu ‘Fenrir’ Chao is the current support and captain for Vici Gaming.
‘Fenrir’s professional Dota 2 career began in late 2012 when he joined the original Vici Gaming’s Dota 2 squad.
Vici Gaming had a rough start and a relatively poor year through 2013, as they failed to qualify for The International. Despite this, the team achieved some great results including 1st place as RaidCall EMS One Fall and 3rd at 2013 WPC ACE Dota 2 League. 2014 was a much more successful year for the team as they managed to place quite highly at most prestigious events and were invited to The International. However, they still failed to qualify for a number of events, and heading into The International 2014, it didn’t look as if the team had what it took to claim the Aegis. To the surprise of many, Vici Gaming managed to place 2nd at the main event.
Following The International 2014, Vici Gaming continued to achieve several great achievements including 1st at i-League Season 1 and 2nd at Dota 2 Asia Championships. At The International 2015, ‘Vici Gaming’ were among favourites to win due to their recent streak of strong results. In the end, they placed 4th at the main event. Unfortunately, the team’s results began to drop a bit after The International and into 2016 and after a joint last place finish at The Shanghai Major, ‘Fenrir’ left Vici Gaming to join EHOME.
‘Fenrir’s time with EHOME was mostly unsuccessful, and they made very little money from tournament winnings. They failed to qualify for several events, but at The International 2016, they managed to place 5th/6th after qualifying through the Wild Card Qualifier. Following this, ‘Fenrir’ left EHOME and formed Team VGJ.
‘Fenrir’s new team were more successful that his previous team, although they started off with several rocky performances. By the New Year, Team VGJ had won the Dota 2 Professional League – Secondary and in 2017 they placed 2nd at StarLadder i-League StarSeries. However, they only placed 5th/8th at The Kiev Major and later failed to qualify for The International 2017 which led to ‘Fenrir’ departing the team and rejoining Vici Gaming.
Vici Gaming quickly established themselves as one of the strongest teams on the pro scene by winning several qualifiers and placing in top 3 at almost every event they attended. While they struggled to place 1st at many events, they finished 2nd at a number of prestigious events including ESL One Katowice, Captains Draft 4.0, Perfect World Masters and AMD SAPPHIRE Dota PIT League.
‘Fenrir’ has attended three of The Internationals and placed 2nd, 4th and 5th/6th. Most of his achievements have been made while playing with Vici Gaming, as he had played with them twice and for long periods of team. He helped them achieve a 1st place finish at The Summit 2 and 2nd place at Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015, among several other achievements.
