Zhang ‘LaNm’ Zhicheng currently plays for Vic Gaming as a support.
‘LaNm’s Dota career began in 2010 when he joined the DotA team Nirvana.cn. In 2011, he transitioned to Dota 2 with the team EHOME to participate in The International. There, his team placed 2nd after a very successful run through the event. In 2012 he left EHOME and joined TongFu. However, shortly after joining them, ‘LaNm’ was involved in a controversy which involved him breaking his contract to play for EHOME. ‘LaNm’ felt that his current team weren’t seriously committed enough for The International 2012 and wrote about his perspective of the events. In the end, the Association for Chinese eSports (ACE) penalized EHOME for the transfer.
Following this, he stayed with EHOME until after The International 2012. During this time his team did not achieve any significant tournament finishes, but they nonetheless managed to place 5th/6th at The International. EHOME disbanded after this, and ‘LaNm’ joined RattleSnake in early 2013. RattleSnake participated in The International 2013 Qualifiers and managed to receive an invite to the main event. However, they performed poorly and placed joint last.
After The International 2013, ‘LaNm’ joined Team DK who quickly established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the world. A 2nd place finish at MLG Championship Columbus made the team look promising, but they struggled to win any events until the end of the year. The New Year marked a turning point for Team DK as they placed 1st or 2nd at almost every event they attended. They won 2013 WPC ACE Dota 2 League, G-League and StarLadder StarSeries Season 9. At many of these events, Team DK faced off against iG in the grand finals which formed a rivalry between the two teams. Heading into The International 2013, Team DK were favorites to win the event, but ended up placing 4th. Following this, ‘LaNm’ announced that he would take a break from competitive play.
‘LaNm’ returned to playing competitively some time around the beginning of 2015 by forming the team Big God. They had formed in time for the Dota 2 Asia Championships Qualifiers, and after receiving an invite, the team placed 4th at the main event. Following this, ‘LaNm’ joined EHOME. Leading up to The International 2015, the team achieved some decent tournament finishes, but struggled at several events. At the main event, they placed 5th/6th after progressing through the Qualifiers. Later, ‘LaNm’ helped his team place 4th at The Frankfurt Major and 9th/12th at The Shanghai Major. This reflected the instability which troubled the team.
In 2016, the team once again progressed through The International Qualifiers but this year placed 5th/6th. Towards the end of the year they placed joint last at The Boston Major Shortly after this, ‘LaNm’ briefly took on the role as team coach for EHOME. He would rejoin the active roster once again shortly thereafter, but in May of 2017, he became the coach for Vici Gaming. Following The International 2017, ‘LaNm’ joined Vici Gaming’s active roster.
Vici Gaming were quick to achieve success. After qualifying for several events, the team went on to place highly at a number of events including 2nd place finishes as ESL One Katowice, Captains Draft 4.0, Perfect World Masters and AMD SAPPHIRE Dota PIT League. ‘LaNm’ helped to make Vici Gaming one of the most dominant teams in the 2017-2018 period.
‘LaNm’ has attended several of The International events. In 2011, he placed 2nd and 4th once and 5th/6th twice. He has helped almost every team he has been a part of achieve high results at prestigious events. More recently, he placed 2nd at ESL One Katowice.
