SoHwan Domestic Career

Kim “SoHwan” Jun-yeong began his LoL career under the name Exile. He played for Pathos in the 2015 CK Summer Split. Pathos had a middling showing in the group stage and their 4-6 record wasn’t enough to break into the playoffs.

After such a disappointing result, Exile left the organization. He changed his name to SoHwan and joined Jin Air Green Wings as their substitute top laner. As luck would have it, Jin Air’s old top laner—TrAce—left the team, and SoHwan was promoted to the main lineup.

Together with his new teammates, he played in the 2015 LoL KeSPA Cup. Jin Air kicked off the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Incredible Miracle, but the following Quarterfinals loss to CJ Entus put an end to their run.  It was clear that SoHwan wasn’t ready to perform on stage, and Jin Air brought back TrAce as their starting top laner.

In the 2016 LCK season, SoHwan only played two competitive games, both of which ended in defeat. When TrAce left the team to coach Samsung Galaxy, SoHwan got another chance. Once again, he attended the 2016 LoL KeSPA Cup. Jin Air’s 2-1 victory over Longzhu Gaming showed some promise, but their Quarterfinals series against ROX Tigers ended with a 1-2 loss.

The 2017 LCK Spring Split had SoHwan sharing playtime with another top laner, ikssu. In spite of SoHwan’s improved performance, he was still a cut below his teammate, and Jin Air tended to field ikksu in his place. Still, SoHwan got some games under his belt. But despite his best efforts, he couldn’t turn around Jin Air’s shaky season. In the end, his team finished the split in ninth place and had to fight for its life in the 2017 LCK Summer Promotion. There, they overcame Ever8 Winners and Kongdoo Monster to retain their LCK slot.

A similar narrative unfolded in summer. And while SoHwan received more opportunities to shine, it was clear that Jin Air preferred to play with ikksu. Even so, SoHwan contributed towards their 8-10 record, and it was partially because of him that Jin Air managed to avoid relegation.

In the off-season, ikksu retired to become a bitcoin investor, and SoHwan reclaimed his starting spot. He took part in the 2017 LoL KeSPA Cup. Jin Air breezed through the qualifying rounds with back-to-back victories over Gwangju City and DAMWON Gaming. However, the playoffs had them losing 1-2 to Longzhu Gaming.

SoHwan International Tournaments

On Jin Air Green Wings, SoHwan attended his first international tournament, IEM Season 10 San Jose. Despite being seeded directly into the Semifinals, Jin Air suffered a crushing 0-2 loss against CLG. With that, they were eliminated from the event.
