Ludwig ‘Zai’ Wåhlberg is the current offlaner for OpTic Gaming. He is famous for being a highly successful player for Evil Geniuses at a very young age.
‘Zai’ originally played Heroes of Newerth at a very high level. He had played on several teams and most notable played with ‘ppd’. In 2014, ‘Zai’ won DreamHoN. At this point, he was only 14 years old and had already established himself as a highly skilled player. ‘Zai’ transitioned to Dota 2 in 2013 when he joined the team Stay Free. In late 2013, he left Stay Free with his teammate ‘ppd’ to join the team Super Strong Dinosaurs. SSD has won 2 Netolic Pro Leagues but after a joint last place finish at StarLadder StarSeries Season 8, the team disbanded and ‘Zai’ joined S A D B O Y S.

Although the team had only been together for less than a maonth, the team were highly successful. They had won 16 out of 18 of their games and placed 3rd/4th at EIZO Cup #11 and 1st at the Electronic Sports Prime Shock Therapy Cup. Following this success, Evil Geniuses signed the full team.
‘Zai’s run with Evil Geniuses was highly successful. Their debut tournament was the Monster Energy Invitational, which the team won. Following this, the team won a number of events including The Summit 1, HyperX D2L Western Challenge. At The International 2014, Evil Geniuses placed 3rd. After a 5th place finish at XMG Captains Draft and due to internal issues, ‘Zai’ along with his teammate ‘Arteezy’ left Evil Geniuses to join Team Secret in time for the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015.
After moving to Team Secret, ‘Zai’ helped his new team place 3rd at the Dota 2 Asia Championships. Team Secret were mostly very successful for the time ‘Zai’ played with them. They had won The Summit 3, MarsTV Dota 2 League and ESL One Frankfurt between May and June. At The International 2015, however, the team disappointingly placed 7th/8th. After this, ‘Zai’ took a break from professional play and focus on his education for a year whilst remaining as a sub for Evil Geniuses.
After having focused on his studies, ‘Zai’ would return to regular competitive play. Evil Geniuses had a full roster however, so while he remained as a sub for them, he joined Kaipi. However it was not long before Evil Geniuses made roster changes, and in June they invited ‘Zai’ to once again play with them. The International 2016 was not far off, but the team still managed to put on a very strong performance where they ended up finishing 3rd. This was the 2nd time ‘Zai’ had placed 3rd at The International, the last time being 2 years prior.
Evil Geniuses continued to achieve some great results in the 2016-2017 period including 3rd/4th place finishes at The Boston Major and The Kiev Major in addition to several other victories at prestigious tournaments. Unfortunately, the team only placed 9th/12th at The International 2017 and following this, ‘Zai’ left Evil Geniuses to form The Dire.
After The Dire qualified for The Summit 8, the team were picked up by OpTic Gaming. OpTic Gaming have had limited success, so far having only placed 6th/7th at DOTA Summit 8, and 2nd at the ROG MASTERS 2017.
‘Zai’ has helped Evil Geniuses place 3rd at The International twice, once in 2014 and again in 2016. In addition, he placed 7th/8th at The International 2015 with Team Secret. ‘Zai’ has also won a number of premier events including ESL One Frankfurt, The Summit 3 and The Manila Masters.
