ZynX Wrist Injury Leaves Gen.G With Two Roster Gaps Before Stage 2

Gen.G has ruled out Kim ‘ZynX‘ Dong-ha for the remainder of the 2026 VCT season due to a wrist injury, the organisation confirmed, leaving the Pacific roster with two open slots and a compressed window to rebuild ahead of Stage 2.

This is the second time ZynX has been sidelined this year. He first missed time during VCT Pacific Stage 1 – with Gen.G Academy’s KiTae stepping in as substitute – before returning for the team’s EWC Pacific qualifier run. According to Gen.G, ZynX competed in those EWC matches while sitting out scrims entirely, but the reduced workload failed to halt the deterioration.

“Following consultations with multiple medical professionals, ZynX was advised to refrain from using his wrist and focus on a full recovery through an extended period of rest,” the organisation said. “After numerous in-depth discussions between ZynX, Gen.G management, and Head Coach solo, we collectively agreed that his long-term health and career must come first.”

Two Roster Spots, Limited Clarity

ZynX’s shutdown compounds the fallout from Gen.G’s decision to part ways with veteran initiator and IGL Lakia last week, leaving the roster in a state it has rarely occupied – short two contributors and without a settled tactical identity. The team now lists Ash, Karon, t3xture, Efina, and Raxcal as its active five.

ZynX had been filling Gen.G’s secondary Duelist, Sentinel, and secondary Controller roles this year, and his absence compresses the viable comp pool at exactly the point where VCT 2026 Stage 2 approaches. The role instability that defined Gen.G’s 2026 – Karon moved to Sentinel before returning to Controller, Ash moved into Controller, Lakia taking IGL – now has one fewer safety valve to absorb it.

What Comes Next

Gen.G must now fill a reliable Duelist slot and a Sentinel or Controller role before Stage 2 competition begins. How quickly they can identify and integrate those signings will be the clearest signal of whether this squad is building toward something or managing a troubled season to a close.
