Skyesports cancels Masters 2025 and Tier 1 Counter-Strike 2 events in 2026

Skyesports has cancelled its Masters 2025 tournament as well as Tier 1 Counter-Strike 2 events planned for 2026, as the organisation has decided to shift its focus in the CS2 esports scene.

It comes after the Indian esports organisation made previous cancellations to tournaments which were due to take place in September and November this year.

Skyesports took to social media to announce that they will no longer focus on Tier 1 events, but will still have involvement in the CS2 scene.

Skyesports cancels CS2 Tier 1 events

Indian esports organisation Skyesports announced the decision to cancel the CS2 events in a post on social media.

It comes after September’s Skyesports Championship and November’s World Tour events were previously cancelled.

Those cancellations came as part of an updated CS2 2025 Roadmap. Skyesports’ announcement at the time said that was to ensure ‘long-term sustainability and growth for the CS2 ecosystem.”

The Skyesports Masters 2025 was set to take place between November 10th and 16th, featuring 20 teams and a $150,000 (£112,000) winning purse.

However, that event has become the latest to be cancelled, along with Tier 1 events in 2026.

Skyesports has dealt with issues previously, including technical problems at the Skyesports Championship 2024. This led to BetBoom’s withdrawal from the tournament, which was won by Vasista Esports.

What is next for Skyesports?

In its statement, Skyesports reveals plans to shift attention to Tier 2 events and the CS2 grassroots ecosystem.

The statement read: “Going forward, our focus will shift towards strengthening the Tier 2 and grassroots ecosystem. This will create more accessible opportunities for emerging teams and establishing a more sustainable pathway to the Tier 1 ecosystem.

“As part of this renewed direction, we will invest in Tier 2 Counter-Strike 2 tournaments. This will begin with the Chennai Esports Global Championship, supported by the government of Tamil Nadu, which marks the first step towards this long-term vision.

“We remain deeply committed to the growth of Counter-Strike 2. We will continue building towards a sustainable Tier 2 ecosystem that addresses a crucial gap – empowering teams with tournaments offering them a chance to climb up the rankings.”

Shiva Nandy, the founder of Skyesports, replied to the announcement: “Sometimes stepping back is the key to moving forward stronger. We’ve learned, adapted, and are building the future of Counter-Strike 2 from the ground up. Our full focus is now on the Chennai Esports Global Championship (CS2 and BGMI). One step at a time.”

The six teams competing at the Chennai Esports Global Championship, will be determined by regional qualifiers in Europe, India and Southeast Asia.

The top two teams from each qualifier will secure a place at the LAN finals. This will take place from November 7th to 9th, 2025.
