Gen.G Secures Future with Canyon’s One Year Extension

In a swift move that bolsters their already strong roster, Gen.G Esports has locked in star jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu for another season. The announcement, made just hours after declaring him a free agent, confirms a one year deal ahead of the 2026 LCK campaign. Despite rumours of overtures from rivals like Hanwha Life Esports, Canyon opted to stay put with the defending LCK titans, ensuring continuity for one of League of Legends most decorated squads.

Canyon, often known as one of the game’s all time elite junglers, brings an stacked resume to the table. A five time LCK champion and 2020 World Champion during his tenure with DAMWON Gaming, he has elevated Gen.G to new heights since arriving. Under his leadership, the team claimed back to back mid season Invitational titles in 2024 and 2025, as well as the prestigious 2025 Esports World Cup. This extension keeps intact Gen.G’s iconic “Ki–Ca–Cho–Rul–Du” lineup featuring top laner Kim “Kiin” Ki-in, Canyon in the jungle, mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, AD carry Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, and support Joo “Duro” Min-kyu a group who can elevate in the 2026 season.

Gen.G’s 2025 season

This was nothing short of legendary. They clinched yet another LCK crown, showcased dominance in their domestic circuit, and was victorious at the MSI. The team even broke T1’s long standing record for the most consecutive regular season wins in LCK history.

Internationally, however, Worlds remained elusive, a semifinal exit at the hands of KT Rolster highlighted their consistency without the ultimate prize. This renewal aligns with Gen.G’s strategy of evolution over revolution, Chovy and Ruler are signed through 2027, Kiin through 2026, and Duro just matched with an extension. The debut for the squad is the face of the new head coach Ryu “Ryu” Sang-wook.

Looking ahead

Gen.G steps into 2026 with their stability being at the highest its ever been, with their main goal of landing their hands on the Worlds trophy. Canyon’s commitment not only fortifies their core, with positioning this juggernaut roster as frontrunners in both LCK and global arenas. As the offseason dust settles, all eyes turn to how this veteran powerhouse will refine its edge.
