DarkZero Esports Acquires NRG Esports in Major 2025 Deal
In a significant move for North American esports, Las Vegas based DarkZero Esports has acquired the esports assets of NRG Esports for an undisclosed amount, announced on December 19, 2025.
The acquisition sees Don Kim, DarkZero’s CEO, stepping into the role of NRG’s CEO, while NRG founder Andy Miller transitions to an advisory position.

NRG, a powerhouse since its 2015 founding by Miller and Mark Mastrov, boasts a storied legacy with 2025 world championships in VALORANT and Rocket League.
The organization competes across titles like Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, and Rocket League, and recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. DarkZero, established in 2018 by Zachary Matula and backed by Grey Matter Capital, is prominent in Rainbow Six Siege and has ventured into League of Legends and Marvel Rivals.
The deal ensures NRG’s brand, rosters, and most staff remain intact, with DarkZero’s teams, including its Rainbow Six Siege squad, rebranding under the NRG banner. Miller described the sale as a “passing of the torch,” expressing confidence in DarkZero’s vision for NRG’s future. Kim emphasized the acquisition’s role in expanding NRG’s competitive footprint and exploring new titles, aiming to make it one of the world’s largest esports brands.
The acquisition aligns with esports industry consolidation trends, as organizations seek stability amid sponsorship and media rights challenges.
NRG’s casual gaming arm, Full Squad Gaming, remains under Miller’s ownership. As NRG prepares for the 2026 season, including the VALORANT Champions Tour Americas Kickoff, the esports community watches closely to see how this transition shapes its competitive dominance.
