The program offers a three-week course in Seoul for students to learn about the esports ecosystem in South Korea.

It shows how British universities are continuing to engage with esports. Many universities offer esports clubs for students to partake in.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with such an amazing esports organisation like Gen.G to provide our students here at Manchester with an amazing opportunity to travel to Seoul and learn the esports industry from the best in the business,” added Garrett Schieferstein, Director of Esports at Manchester University.

“This travel abroad experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn more about esports on a global scale and experience South Korean esports/culture.”

What is the Gen.G Practicum Abroad program?

The Gen.G Practicum Abroad program which Manchester University is participating in will include a wide range of activities.

This includes custom esports programming, mentorship by industry professionals, lectures and networking. Students will also immerse themselves in the Korean culture and visit competitive esports organisations and gaming publisher studios.

The Gen.G Foundation has previously awarded scholarships to more than 40 students across the United States.

“This is our most ambitious program since the launch of our Gen.G Practicum Abroad program, bringing together some of the best universities in the country to expand their educational programs on campus,” said Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G.

“The students will be fully immersed in Korea with hands-on experiences to give them a 360-degree view of the esports industry.”

Junior Valorant captain Benjamin Schlarb added: “I think that this partnership with Gen.G is an amazing opportunity for students like me to get hands-on experience in the esports industry before we even graduate.

“It being with such an incredible organization like Gen.G is something you can’t pass up. For anyone who’s in the same boat as me and wants to have a job in esports, this might just be the best we are going to get and for that I am thankful.”
