The MongolZ Finish Strong to Reach Esports World Cup Playoffs
The MongolZ closed out Group D’s lower-bracket semifinal with a 2-0 sweep of paiN Gaming on Sunday in Paris, eliminating the Brazilian roster and locking in a spot in the Esports World Cup’s single-elimination playoff field alongside five other teams that clinched berths the same day.
The all-Mongolian squad took Nuke 13-10 before closing on Inferno 13-4, following a close first-map contest with a decisive second map.

How The MongolZ Closed It Out
Nuke was competitive, with The MongolZ taking a 7-5 lead into halftime before holding off paiN’s comeback attempt to secure the 13-10 opener. Inferno was a different story: The MongolZ built an 8-4 halftime advantage and did not allow paiN to win a round in the second half, closing 13-4 to finish the series in two maps.
The result eliminates paiN from the Esports World Cup entirely, sending them to a 17th-24th-place finish worth $20,000 and no club championship points.
bLitz Leads The Sweep
Garidmagnai ‘bLitz’ Byambasuren was the standout across both maps, finishing with 37 kills and a plus-12 kill-death differential to pace The MongolZ’s win.

What Else Happened in the Bracket
The MongolZ’s win was one of six lower-bracket results Sunday that reshaped the tournament’s playoff picture. Legacy beat MIBR 2-0 in Group B, with Santino ‘try’ Rigal posting 38 kills, while Astralis outlasted Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-1 behind Victor ‘Staehr’ Staehr’s 53 kills. In Group C, MOUZ blanked PARIVISION 2-0 and Team Vitality swept Lynn Vision Gaming 2-0, with Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut posting 40 kills for Vitality. In the other Group D match, magic defeated 9z Team 2-1, led by Nikita ‘tenzy’ Kochenyuk’s 74 kills.
