Team Vitality Wins StarLadder Budapest Major 2025
In a thrilling conclusion to the Counter-Strike 2 season, French powerhouse Team Vitality has secured its second Major championship of 2025 by defeating FaZe Clan 3-1 in the grand final of the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025.
This victory marks the first ever best of five grand final in Major history and caps off an extraordinary year for Vitality’s CS2 roster, which now boasts nine tier-1 titles.
FaZe Takes the Lead on Nuke
FaZe Clan opened the series on their map pick, Nuke. Despite starting on the CT side, Vitality surged ahead with eight straight T-side rounds, but FaZe mounted a comeback lead by standout performances from Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski, whose desert eagle plays controlled the A site.
Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s veteran clutch in round 18, with three MP9 frags pushed FaZe to the edge, and a team effort in the following round sealed a 13-6 win, giving FaZe a 1-0 series lead.
Vitality Evens the Score on Dust II and Inferno
Vitality responded fiercely on their pick of Dust II, the site of their earlier BLAST.tv Austin Major triumph. They blitzed to an 8-0 lead, with FaZe managing only brief resistance. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut’s four pistol headshots in round 13 fueled a dominant defensive half, leading to a crushing 13-3 victory that tied the series.
On Inferno, the teams exchanged blows early, but Vitality pulled ahead with an 8-4 halftime edge, thanks to William “mezii” Merriman’s anchoring. FaZe narrowed the gap post halftime, but Vitality’s riflers and aggressive executes held firm for a 13-9 win, putting them up 2-1.
Overpass Seals the Deal
The decisive Overpass, another Vitality selection, saw the French squad quick out of the gates with seven unanswered T-side rounds. Robin “ropz” Kool’s AWP paired with ZywOo’s firepower built an 11-1 lead. FaZe snagged the pistol round after halftime, but Vitality quickly reasserted control, closing out a 13-2 rout and the 3-1 series.
Team Vitality’s back to back Major wins is the first since Astralis in 2019, solidify their status as the premier CS2 team of 2025, drawing widespread celebration across the community.
