Astralis Survive G2 Test to Reach FISSURE Playground Semis

Astralis opened FISSURE Playground #3 in Suzhou, China with a 2-1 win over G2 Esports, dropping an overtime thriller on Mirage before closing out the Group A opening-round match with wins on Ancient and Inferno to advance into the upper-bracket semifinals.

Astralis Recover From Mirage Overtime Loss

The series opened with Astralis taking Ancient 13-9, only for G2 to force overtime on Mirage and escape with a 19-17 win to level the match at one map apiece. Astralis shut the door on Inferno, closing it out 13-5 to secure the 2-1 result on Tuesday’s opening day of the $1 million LAN event.

All matches at FISSURE Playground #3 run best-of-three through the group stage and playoffs, with the format escalating to a best-of-five only in the grand final. The win puts Astralis alongside 9z Team, MIBR and BetBoom as Group A’s opening-round winners, matching the four upper-bracket advancers out of Group B detailed in the tournament’s other Day 1 results.

jabbi Leads Astralis’ Winning Effort

Jakob ‘jabbi’ Nygaard carried the load for Astralis across the three maps, finishing with 66 kills and a plus-19 kill-death differential – the top individual output on either roster in the series.

The Dane’s numbers held up across the full match, including the Mirage overtime loss, giving Astralis a fragging edge that ultimately translated into the map wins on Ancient and Inferno.

Upper-Bracket Semifinal Against BetBoom

Astralis’ win puts them into the Group A upper-bracket semifinals against BetBoom Team on Wednesday, with the double-elimination format sending group winners straight to the semis, runners-up to the quarterfinals as high seeds, and third-place finishers to the quarterfinals as low seeds. A win over BetBoom would lock Astralis into the semifinal round with a direct route through the group stage.

G2 drop into the Group A lower-bracket quarterfinals, where they face BIG on Wednesday in a match that will determine whether their run continues past the group stage. The lower-bracket path leaves no margin for error, a wrinkle covered in more detail alongside the roster and schedule shifts that shaped the field heading into FISSURE Playground #3.

The single-elimination playoffs run Friday through Sunday, with all matches best-of-three until the grand final steps up to best-of-five. Whichever club wins the tournament collects $300,000 total – $165,000 to the players and $135,000 to the organization – from an event pool that pays out all the way down to the 13th-16th place finishers.

Growing up in Wrocław, Poland, he developed a sharp eye for team dynamics and meta shifts that most casual fans overlook, and that analytical instinct eventually pulled him toward the betting side of the scene. He approaches every matchup the way a statistician would, but writes about it the way a fan would, which tends to resonate with readers who are tired of surface-level picks and gut-feel predictions.
