FURIA Rally From 3:9 Down to Reach EWC Quarter-Finals

FURIA eliminated Aurora 2:1 in the tightest series of EWC 2026’s opening playoff day, completing a Mirage comeback from 3:9 down after dropping a Nuke overtime to book a quarter-final spot against G2 in the $2 million Paris event.

Aurora exits at 9-16th place with $35,000 in prize money, a result that pulls them out of the tournament entirely despite pushing the series to a decider.

The Mirage Turnaround

FURIA opened with a 13:11 win on Ancient before Aurora leveled the series 14:16 in overtime on Nuke, setting up a decisive Mirage that looked to be slipping away early. Aurora built a 9:3 lead on the map, putting FURIA one map from elimination and seemingly in control of the momentum.

FURIA closed it out 13:9, and according to Championat, Aurora failed to win a single T-side round on that third map – a collapse that flipped the entire series in FURIA’s favor down the stretch.

Bracket Fallout and What’s Next

FURIA now advance to face G2, who progressed on the same day by beating Astralis, in a quarter-final matchup that pits two of the tournament’s more form-driven rosters against each other. The result closes out Aurora’s EWC run and adds another data point to FURIA’s broader EWC playoff push, while Aurora’s exit caps a campaign detailed in coverage of their tournament run.

Day one of the CS2 playoffs also produced three other quarter-final berths, rounding out half the bracket field:

The full picture of how these results shape the remaining rounds is laid out in the EWC 2026 CS2 playoff bracket breakdown, with quarter-final matches continuing as the single-elimination format narrows the field. EWC 2026 runs in Paris from August 12 through August 24 with the $2 million prize pool at stake across all remaining rounds.
