FISSURE Drops Playground 3 and Two Other CS2 Events Over Scheduling Conflicts
FISSURE has cancelled three CS2 events – including its flagship Playground 3 LAN in Shenzhen, China – citing a logistical collision with IEM Rio 2026 and lessons drawn from running tournaments during the official player break.
According to FISSURE’s official statement on X, Playground 3 was scheduled for April 20–26, with IEM Rio concluding on April 19. Travel from South America to China exceeds 36 hours and spans multiple time zones, making competitive participation at a professional standard effectively impossible for any team exiting the Rio event.
Events Removed from the Calendar
- FISSURE Playground 3 – April 20–26, 2026, Shenzhen; $450,000 prize pool; 16-team field.
- July 2026 event – Scrapped following poor competitive quality at Playground 1, which ran during the player break.
- July 2027 event – Pre-emptively cancelled under the same rationale.
Regulatory Pressure in the Background
The cancellations arrive in a tightening regulatory environment. PGL CEO Silviu Stroie publicly claimed in late 2025 that multiple FISSURE events would lose Tier-1 status for missing Valve’s 10-month notification deadline – a requirement for official ranking integration and VRS bonus eligibility. While FISSURE’s official statement focuses primarily on the physical impossibility of the April travel window, the move also highlights the strict new regulatory environment for CS2.
FISSURE confirmed all remaining announced events will proceed as planned, including a Shenzhen LAN in September 2026. The organiser stated it is recalibrating its long-term roadmap to avoid scheduling dead zones in the calendar.
