OWCS Finals Viewership – Is Overwatch Back?
After the collapse of the Overwatch League, the OWCS hoped to help the esport slowly return to its former glory. With the conclusion of the final tournament of the season, the OWCS Finals viewership has us wondering—is Overwatch back?
Overwatch Champions Series – Any Better?
For those unaware, this past weekend saw the conclusion of the OWCS with the OWCS World Finals 2024. With $200,000 on the line, Team Falcons climbed to the top and are your new World Champions after a season with a twist – the season’s leading Overwatch betting opportunity.
Now, while the general attitude towards Overwatch is that it is a title way beyond its prime, has the Overwatch Champions Series seen more success?
Considering viewership is a metric of popularity, here’s where the OWCS World Finals stacks up against other tournaments in the history of Overwatch:
Overwatch Tournament | Peak Viewershpi |
---|---|
OWL Inaugural Season: Stage 1 | 437,006 |
OWL 2022 Playoffs | 397,868 |
OWL 2018 Playoffs | 349,592 |
Overwatch World Cup 2018 | 321,960 |
Overwatch World Cup 2023 | 318,780 |
#16 - Overwatch Champions Series 2024 Finals | 159,918 |
At 159,918 peak viewers, the Overwatch Champions Series 2024 Finals certainly did not break any viewership records or Overwatch odds.
However, compared to last year, the Overwatch League 2023 Playoffs recorded a peak viewership of 157,689.
While this is a slight increase compared to last year, there hasn’t been much of an improvement.
OWCS Finals Viewership – Looking Good
In our opinion, considering that the esport has suffered quite a bit of budget cuts, the slightly improved viewership is a big plus.
Moreover, it goes on to show that the financial model for Overwatch certainly made no sense with the Overwatch League. Accordingly, we look forward to the evolution of Overwatch esports.
