The International Compendium 2024 – Worth the Wait?
As The International ‘beckons’ to the community, Valve has released a collection of rewards and challenges to celebrate through The International Compendium 2024. In this discussion, we’re taking a deep dive into the collection – is it worth it?
TI Compendium – Crowdfunding & Fun
Last year, the community wasn’t thrilled with The International Compendium, describing it as underwhelming although unrelated to Dota 2 TI betting. For those unaware, Valve reduced the amount of content around The International in order to offer better content all year long, reducing the priority over TI.
Regardless, here’s a quick look at the rewards up for grabs via The International Compendium for Dota, ahead of the Dota 2 TI schedule:
- The International 2024 HUD
- Loading Screens and Animated Vesus Screens
- Player and team stickers
- Chat Wheels
- Effigy wheels
- Team Teleport Effects
- Activities – Fantasy, Bingo and Pick’ems each with their own rewards
Available at two price points, the Standard Compendium goes for $7.49 while the Upgraded Compendium is a premium at $29.99. This premium has made esports news headlines – is it worth it?
Compendium Level Rewards & Boosters
There are levels to the Compendium, literally. Grinding out the game and trying out the activities lets you level up and earn further awards. Take a look at what each package offers:
Similar to last year’s The International Compendium, play Dota to earn unique rewards through the Weekly Challenge, with extra points for the first win of each day while you track the changing TI13 odds.
Of note, for anyone determined enough to complete the collection and level up, you’ll earn an Aegis-shaped 1/5th-scale nickel alloy replica as a prize.
Fantasy, Oracle and Bingo – Activities
Beyond cosmetics, there are several in-game activities to help users interact more closely with the competition and TI standings.
Here’s a quick summary of the activities available:
- Oracle’s Challenge – TI’s version of a pick ’em system, fill out each stage of the competition with your predictions for which team will win matches and make it deep into the tournament such as the Dota 2 TI brackets.
- Fantasy League – pick out any three players across three roles from Dota 2 TI teams throughout the tournament – their performances are influenced by emblems and traits which one can swap and roll.
- Bingo – follow the live TI action while filling out a randomized Bingo card for each stage, each with unique situations. Cross out a row or the entire grid to claim your Bingo.
All of these activities are set in a social hub, where you can compete against your friends on a global leaderboard.
Any success from these activities can be redeemed for points.
The International Compendium – Verdict
Similar to last year, The International Compendium is not for everyone. Specifically, these packages are aimed at Dota 2 fans invested in the competitive scene, especially the Upgrade Compendium.
Regarding the Standard Compendium, the roughly $7, anyone who wishes to support The International prize pool should enjoy the activities and cosmetics which are up for grabs.
Anyways, separate from the Compendium is the release of the new hero, Ring Master – available to everyone at no additional cost.
